Description of the walk

(S) Leave the lodge and follow the same route as on the way there until you reach the junction with theGR®510at marker 54.

(1) Then turn right onto theGR®510to the hamlet of Saint-Jeannet.
Note: You can follow the D83 road to the hamlet of Saint-Jeannet; this road is very quiet in the early morning and can be quite pleasant. This option also avoids a loss of elevation.

(2) Then take the D84 towards Gars, still on theGR®510, until you reach the junction with the well-signposted path towards Gars, which branches off to the right into the valley.
The path crosses the road and joins a track heading south-east. Follow this track to reach the junction marked 41.

(3) Keep slightly to the right on the GR®. Cross the stream in the Vallon de Molespine. Reach the hamlet of Gars via a fairly steep descent.

(4) In the village, head towards Briançonnet on theGR® 510. At marker 31, turn right onto the Coulette track. At the end of the track, the path veers off to the right, climbs above the Estéron and crosses a tributary via a pretty footbridge. Reach marker 32 at the edge of the Ruisseau de l’Estéron.

(5) Keep to the right on theGR® and follow the Éouvrière cliff.
After the footbridge, the path climbs steeply before levelling out 200m further up.
You will then reach the junction at marker 28.

(6) Ignore the path on the right and continue straight ahead into the village of Briançonnet.

(7) Continue to follow theGR®510, following the sign for Col de l’Escouissier Saint-Auban. The path descends into a pretty valley to reach a footbridge over the Estéron.

(8) Begin the climb towards the Col de l'Escouissier, which is very steep but starts in woodland on a lovely path, opening out further on. Reach the pass marked by signpost 24.

(9) Begin the descent towards Saint-Auban, still on theGR®510. To shorten the route slightly, once you reach the first houses, pass the Caladou crossroads and then, at the left-hand bend, take the track leading off to the right (sign: no vehicles over 2 tonnes), which continues as a path, passes behind two farms and joins the road leading into Saint-Auban. You will then reach the Saint-Auban lodge (E).
