The highlight, undoubtedly the most beautiful natural site on the Hauts Plateaux, is the Plaine de la Queyrie, where I’d love to be reincarnated as a marmot, with its carved tree and its stunning Roman quarry.

This hike, in the heart of the Vercors, will allow you to discover the splendour of the high plateaus and a part of its history. A world of your own, ideal for the start or end of the season when snow still lies on other mountain ranges. Moderate elevation gain but a distance not to be underestimated; allow 6½ hours at a brisk pace, or 7½ hours at a more leisurely pace.
As is the case everywhere on the Vercors high plateaus, this hike should only be undertaken in good weather.

Chichilianne is a treasure trove of hikes towards the Vercors plateau. Once finished, some people take the train which stops at Clelles. But few hikers know that you can set off from Chichilianne or La Richardière and reach Clelles station in under two hours, walking alongside an irrigation canal for nearly three kilometres. This return walk to Clelles can also be taken in the opposite direction when you start your journey.
