Through the forests of western Paris

Although highly urbanised, western Paris offers a considerable density of green spaces and forests, which this series of hikes, from station to station or in a circular route starting from a station, invites you to (re)discover. Several forest areas are on the programme: Saint-Cloud, La Celle, Marly, Versailles, Les Tailles d'Herbelaye and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. There is also a rich heritage to discover, particularly in the parks of Saint-Cloud and Marly, in Marnes-la-Coquette, Chambourcy and Poissy.

Stages of the route

This route needs several days, find the details below:

   From Boulogne to Versailles through woods, basins and ponds

   A hike that starts on the banks of the Seine and then crosses the Parc de Saint-Cloud, passing by its main lakes. You then stroll through Marnes-la-Coquette and Ville-d'Avray at the foot of beautiful, large houses. After winding your way between the Étangs de Ville-d'Avray, you walk through the southern part of the Forêt de Fausses-Reposes. The hike ends in a residential neighbourhood of Versailles.

   From Boulogne to Bougival via the Parc de Saint-Cloud and the Bois de La Celle

   This hike first takes us up the hill of Saint-Cloud, then through the park of the same name with its gardens, flower beds, ponds and Greco-Roman-inspired statues. We then walk through a residential area with beautiful houses. After crossing the Bois de La Celle, we walk through the "village" of La Celle Saint-Cloud to reach Bougival station.

   From Bougival to Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche via the Park and Forest of Marly

   A mainly forest route despite its proximity to Paris! After crossing the Bois de Louveciennes, you can enjoy the Parc de Marly, with its views and ponds. The route ends in the Marly National Forest, with a winding path at first, then a wide, straight path.

   De L'Étang-la-Ville à Saint-Nom en Forêt de Marly

   Une randonnée de gare à gare, essentiellement en forêt. Le parcours alterne les larges chemins balisés et les sentiers moins courus où un bon sens de l'orientation est utile. En chemin, de belles ambiances forestières, plusieurs arbres remarquables et une ancienne croix du XVIIIe siècle.

   La Croix Saint-Michel in the Forest of Marly

   A mainly forest route with several remarkable trees here and there. The site of the Croix Saint-Michel offers a view stretching as far as Paris. A short but fairly challenging hike, given the alternating ascents and descents (the total elevation gain is probably underestimated; allow for around 200m).

    From Chaville to Versailles through the national forests

    A hike from station to station, mainly through forest. Although located in an urban setting, this route takes you through green (in season) and peaceful areas. The Chêne des Missions oak tree and the Étang du Trou au Gants pond are two beautiful points of interest.

    De Saint-Nom à Saint-Germain par les forêts de Marly et de Saint-Germain

    Une randonnée de gare à gare qui traverse le Nord de la Forêt domaniale de Marly puis le Sud de celle de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Entre les deux, on longe les jardins d'une zone résidentielle puis on traverse brièvement une zone d'activités. L'arrivée s'effectue au pied du Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, qui abrite un musée de la préhistoire.

    De Saint-Nom à Poissy par les forêts de Marly et des Tailles d'Herbelay

    Une randonnée de gare à gare qui traverse la Forêt domaniale de Marly puis la Forêt départementale des Tailles d'Herbelay. Elle propose ensuite la visite du charmant centre-ville de Chambourcy et quelques pas en Forêt domaniale de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. L'itinéraire s'achève à Poissy où l'on pourra admirer la Collégiale Notre-Dame et les vestiges du Vieux Pont sur la Seine.

    A hike from station to station, most of which takes place in the Forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which we cross from south-west to north-east. It is an opportunity to walk through forests of various species and to come across two ancient crosses and two oratories. The route ends with a water theme, at the confluence of the Seine and the Oise.

    A hike from station to station that crosses the entire eastern part of the Saint-Germain-en-Laye National Forest. A few crosses and oratories mark this forest trail. The route ends in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, where you can admire its castle, built in the 12th century.

    From Achères to Achères via the Forêt de Saint-Germain and the Étang du Corra

    A station-to-station walk, which can also be done as a slightly shorter loop. The route is mainly woodland, using both signposted paths and little-travelled paths in the undergrowth. The Étang du Corra, a protected site, offers an interlude with beautiful views and the chance to spot many birds.

    Short loop in the north of the Saint-Germain-en-Laye Forest

    A former royal hunting ground, the Forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye has wide, long avenues. There are also paths winding through the undergrowth, which this hike invites you to discover. The route is mainly through the forest, with a variety of tree species and a short stretch along the edge of a pond.

Un bref parcours ne présentant pas de difficulté, un excellent fléchage et de nombreux panneaux d'information.
