The route starts opposite the outdoor public chapel of the newly renovated Notre-Dame-des-Neiges abbey.
(S) You take the small road that runs between the abbey buildings and this little chapel (you'll use this road almost all the way to the gates of La Bastide-Puylaurent, i.e. for just under 3km).
(1) After 1.4 km, the road meets another small road coming from the left at the end of an S-shaped bend; you leave this small road and continue on to reach the large bories (stone hut) farm 200m further on; you go along a wood on your right and then come to a bend to the left.
(2) Ignore the path to the right and follow the road to the left. 300m further on, you come to a place called La Courège where you meet a track coming from the right. Follow this road, turning left; again 300m further on, at the end of the forest, a new small road joins yours and you continue straight ahead. You're heading downhill towards La Bastide-Puylaurent, but just as the road bends slightly to the left, a path opens up in front of you. You take it downhill until it reaches the first street in the village, which you follow, only to soon come across another street which you turn left onto. At the next small crossroads, turn right and cross the small bridge over the Rieufrais stream. Just after, you come to Rue des Tilleuls (at the corner of a butcher's and delicatessen); this street is also the D906. Turn left towards the crossroads in the center of the village, passing between a pharmacy, a hotel-restaurant-bar and a self-service store.
(3) At the crossroads, turn right (towards Chasseradès - Belvezet - Mende) and you'll see the village church on your left; you're now on the D6, which you follow to cross the bridge over the Allier. After the bridge, turn right (there's a sidewalk so you don't have to stay on the road - follow signs for Gare SNCF). Continue along the Place de la Gare and, just after the station, take the small street in the left-hand corner opposite you (to the left of a level-crossing sign). The railroad tracks are on your left; continue along this street, which bends to the left to cross the railway tracks at the level crossing. After crossing the railway tracks, you continue the half-loop into Avenue du Théron, then immediately take the first right, which climbs steeply, leaving two street entrances on your right (Chemin de la Fraisse, which loops around); you climb up and the road yaws as it continues to rise gradually through the trees.
(4) After these, the road, which has become a track, veers sharply to the right, meeting a path coming from the left; you stay on the track, also veering to the right, and continue to climb along a wood to your right. 500m further on, you come to a crossroads between several paths of different sizes. Take the one furthest to your left, which remains the main track. This continues to climb steadily for about 1.6km (you leave 2 paths on your left that meet or cross it) until the track veers right at a right angle when a path joins it on the left; you continue to follow the track on the right.
(5) You reach the summit at La Mourade, where you are over 1,300m above sea level. Continue along the main track to the summit for about 3km, following the GR® signs and ignoring the many paths to the left and right.
(6) When the track begins to descend again, you come to a junction of several paths in different directions; turn left onto the one that remains the main track (still signposted as GR®). It descends steeply southwards for more than 1.5km, before leaving the forest and becoming a small road. It curves to the left before reaching the first house in Chabalier (shortly before, a path will have met it on the right). At the beginning of the village, you leave a path that comes from your left between a small building and a house.
(7) Immediately afterwards, you avoid the rest of the village and take the hairpin right. A little further down, you cross the small bridge over the Allier, which is still just a stream at this point; the road rises a little and you take the first path on the right before the small road reaches the D6, which overhangs. The path again passes a stream (Ruisseau du Fontaleyres) and meanders through meadows before reaching the area around the Chasseradès station ( Please note: at this point the GR® takes you left towards the D6, but to avoid having to walk alongside it, don't follow the GR®).
(8) Turn right and stay on this road for 1km until you come to a junction with another road (a cross on your left). Take the left-hand road down into the village of Chasseradès. At the crossroads, after a farm on your right, turn right, then 50m further on, turn left into the next street. You'll come to the main street, and by turning right you'll reach the Chasseradès bridge, which is the finish point of this route (E).
