Departure from the hamlet of Montségur, parking available. Another departure point is possible from Lacham de Merle, which shortens the hike slightly.
(S/E) Turn your back on the hamlet and climb the track to the ridge: Coulet sign
(1) Turn left towards Loubaresse and the Sansibouge plain. Follow the ridge along the stony but well-marked and sufficiently signposted track. Climb gently, enjoying beautiful views of the Espinasse valley and Sablières.
(2) From this point, the path becomes less obvious and deviates from the IGN map (which does not correspond to anything). In autumn 2025, vegetation began to invade certain passages: the markings are faint but sufficient to continue, passing through beautiful clearings that are ideal for picnics. Continue to the La Sapède sign.
(3) Turn right towards Dompnac. Leave the clearings on the ridge, the sun and the views behind you and head into the forest. The path is easy to follow but badly damaged in places. Many scree slopes have replaced the paved slanting streets, making walking a little difficult. Reach Lacham de Merle and come back out into the light.
(4) Continue to the right, overlooking the hamlet, and head towards Granzial.
(5) Once you reach the hamlet, climb back up into the forest towards Le Coulet. The markings become quite difficult to follow and are few and far between. In autumn, the path disappears under the leaves!
(1) Take the downhill track towards Montségur and return to the car park (S/E).
