Park in the Montselgues car park.
(S/E) Pass in front of the La Fage lodge. Turn right onto the road that leads to a large crossroads of paths about 1 km away.
(1) Take the dirt track opposite to reach the Prat-Clos farm. Go around it, following the JB (Yellow White) markings. Begin a steep descent along the path with the rather uninviting name: Chemin des Morts qui tue les Vivants (Path of the Dead that kills the Living). Wind your way down to the village of Chamier, which you reach by crossing the bridge over the Chamier River.
(2) Take the road on the left for about 1 km to reach a path marked with a sign: L'Oratoire.
(3) Turn right onto this path to reach the houses of the Oratoire and then the meadow on the edge of La Borne.
(4) Enjoy this pleasant spot, then return to the previous crossroads.
(3) Turn right onto the road and continue to the village of Féreyrolles.
(5) Cross the village and, at the water point on the left, take the path which also climbs steeply to reach the plateau. You will come to two wooden chalets.
(6) Join a wide track to return to the crossroads at the start of the circular.
(1) Follow the same route back to the car park (S/E).
The route is not long in terms of kilometres, but the descent is steep and long. The walk along the riverbank to see the stone balls (494 m altitude) is refreshing, but then you climb back up to 1016 m in one go. So it took us 5 hours in total, a little longer than on the route map.You need to be in good shape, as it may discourage novice hikers. We took advantage of this route to test the 'give your position' feature. It worked very well and the person was able to follow us on their computer from home. We will therefore take up this option when we subscribe to the club. Thanks to Visorando. Doing the hike in this direction has the advantage of offering a view of the valley on the way up, as the descent is through woods and chestnut trees, so the view is a little restricted.
. It was a shame because the hike looked beautiful...
