At the Col de la Chavade on the N102 coming from Aubenas, turn right onto the D239 towards Mazan. About 3km further on, you’ll reach the Col du Cros de Boutazon, where the hiking trail starts.
(S/E) At the sign for Col du Cros de Boutazon (altitude 1378m), take the path leading down to the right.
Head towards the Cros de Boutazon signpost: take the road on the right for about 300m.
(1) Take theGR®7on the left. Continue until you reach the Le Claret signpost.
Leave theGR® here and take the white-and-yellow marked path on the right, which leads to a road.
(2) Cross it and continue along the road opposite, reaching the confluence of several streams, notably the Ruisseau de Pra Petit.
(3) Leave the road and take the track on the left which crosses the forest to reach the junction at the Cocu signpost.
(4) Turn left towards the Croix de Chaumiène, heading for the hamlet of Cocu.
(5) At this fork, leave the track on the right and turn left onto a new one.
(6) Take the track on the right to reach another crossroads.
(7) Turn left and you will come to another large crossroads with a sign for Croix de Chaumiène.
(8) Continue left towards Le Fenadou. Pass the ruined village of Chaumiène. Then, a little further on, turn right and walk alongside a farm currently being restored, La Veuve.
(9) Leave the track and take the path on the right leading to the ridge.
Reach the ridge.
(10) Begin the return journey by descending the same path to the Croix de Chaumiène signpost.
(8) Continue straight ahead to return to the crossroads you passed on the way out.
(7) Instead of continuing along the track you took on the way there, take the path that branches off to the left.
(5) Turn left back onto the track taken on the way out until you reach the Cocu post.
(4) Do not follow the track you took on the way there, but continue along the one on the left towards L'Astet. 50m further on, you’ll reach a fork where the left-hand branch leads to a house. Continue straight ahead, passing a cistern on your right, and you’ll come to a junction.
(11) Continue to the right.
(12) Take the track on the right and follow it until you reach a road at a place called Au Marquis.
(13) Continue to the left.
(3) Continue straight on to rejoin the outward route until you reach the crossroad.
(2) Take this road on the left and follow it straight on.
Leave the road and take the path on the left to return to the starting point of the walk (S/E).
