The Goulet Forest from Prévenchères

Park in Prévenchères in the Rue du Dévézou car park, just before the bridge.

(S/E) With your back to the river, take Rue du Dévézou, then Rue du Prieuré to reach the D906.

(1) Turn right onto the small road towards the campsite (it runs alongside the D906). Follow it for 3 km on a slight incline with the Chassezac river and then the Ruisseau des Gouttes flowing on your left. Just after the bridge, you will reach a crossroads with a hiking signpost (Bois de Puylaurent).

(2) Continue along the road (see Practical Information) and go through a hairpin bend to the left. About a hundred metres further on, find a path that branches off to the right (yellow signpost).

(3) Take this path, which climbs steadily (with the stream now singing on your right) through the woods to reach a crossroads with a Valat d'Entillat signpost at 1,062 m.

(4) Turn right to reach the hamlet of Les Gouttes (water source on the left, drinkable?). Just after the hamlet, join a small road, Les Gouttes signpost 1088 m.

(5) Follow it to the right and go around a bend. About 50 m further on, find a path on the right (very grassy in early July 2025).

(6) Take this unmarked path. At the^first fork, turn left and continue to a^second fork.

(7) Take the slightly overgrown path up to the left. At the next junction, keep left and you will reach the ridge in the mountain pasture area. Continue along the path, which is now very good, and you will reach a junction at the edge of the forest.

(8) Continue opposite on the wide forest track which winds downhill and joins a low point (altitude 1045 m) with magnificent views.

(9) Take the hairpin bend to the left to cross the Ruisseau des Maurines. Stay on the wide track and reach a T-junction.

(10) Turn right to join the D906 at "La Molette" and the GR®72.

(11) Cross (with caution) and take the GR® opposite, marked in white and red, arriving a hundred metres further on at the crossroads marked by the La Molette 996 m signpost. Leave the road and stay on the GR®. This is a beautiful path through the woods, often on rocky slabs. At the fork, take the right-hand path and join a small road ( Tas de Graviers signpost, 978 m).

(12) Follow the road on the left, which is still the GR® trail, for about 100 metres until you reach the Roucheiroux signpost (970 m). Keep right, parallel to the road, and rejoin it shortly afterwards.

(13) Leave the path and turn left (GR® well signposted, but be careful). Continue south-west along a fence until you reach the main path.

(14) Leave the GR® and follow this path on the right to immediately reach a fork (information sign for Prévenchères and its inn). Follow the beautiful path on the left (mountain bike signposting) which winds downhill without difficulty towards Prévenchères. You will arrive at a crossroads just before the SNCF bridge.

(15) Continue straight ahead, pass under the bridge and follow the small road to the Rue du Dévézou car park (S/E).

The paths are relatively easy, but you should wear good walking shoes and a walking stick may be useful.

(2) It is also possible to take a sharp left turn and head towards Puylaurent (there may be some beautiful views of the Chassezac river). At Puylaurent, follow the signs to (4) via Tire-Biau.

(S/E) Prévenchères, with its beautiful church and square with an old lime tree and cedar. You can eat at the Auberge du Vieux Tilleul, which serves good food at reasonable prices (remember to book)
