7 tales on a walk: the lost mermaid
Welcome to the imaginary land of South Jura.
On this 7 Tales on a Walk trail, take a short storytelling walk with your family and immerse yourself in the story of the lost mermaid.
The starting point is marked by an entrance gate (in the form of a giant book), on which is written the type of object you will have to look for and follow throughout the walk.
Step through this door to enter a world full of mystery.
The path to Maisod Castle
Under the pine trees, immerse yourself in a Mediterranean atmosphere and marvel at the turquoise waters of Lake Vouglans stretching as far as the eye can see. Let the grains of sand covering the beaches caress your skin. The only thing missing from this picture is the taste of salt on your lips to make you believe in this unlikely little sea in the mountains.
This easy walk from the port of La Mercantine will take you to Maisod Castle and along Lake Vouglans
The Belvédère des Bourlaches viewpoint in the Vaucluse forest
The view from the viewpoint is always impressive. On this route, you will overlook the beautiful landscapes of Lake Vouglans, observe its changing colours and contemplate its wooded shores, remarkably preserved from any unsightly urban development.
The Cimante waterfalls
This beautiful, mostly shaded route offers views of several waterfalls, each as pretty as the next, as well as a cave open on the side of a cliff with a spring flowing from it. The vegetation is very diverse and you can see the tireless work of water on the rock.
From the Regardoir viewpoint to the Roche aux Corneilles viewpoint
The view from the lookout point is always impressive. Along this trail, you will overlook the beautiful landscapes of Lake Vouglans, observe its colourful surroundings and contemplate its wooded shores, remarkably preserved from unsightly urban development.
This route is also suitable for trail runners.
On either side of the Pont de la Pyle bridge
On either side of the Pont de la Pyle bridge, there are so many beautiful things to see, do and discover!
One side takes you along a long, quiet path through the woods, running alongside the lake, with viewpoints and picnic areas.
The other side, which is more touristy, takes you to the ruins of a castle, caves, viewpoints, and a leisure area with a harbour and a beach.
In short, everything you need for a great day out!

Walk in the Jura woods
An easy hike for the whole family, where the vegetation changes from deciduous trees to pines, firs, Scots pines and boxwood. You can also walk along a stream, enter a cave and enjoy three waterfalls.
Lake Vouglans - Surchauffant cliffs
Discover the splendour of France's third largest reservoir with its turquoise blue waters. In this magnificent setting, walk between forests and steep cliffs with superb views of the lake.
The Langard route starting from Soucia
"If, walking in the forest, you come across the same tree twice, you are lost," says the proverb..
On this pleasant route, there's no question of getting lost, but rather of enjoying the landscape and this world apart that opens up under the green shade of its remarkable trees, sublime clearings, refreshing waterfalls, breathtaking viewpoints and mysterious caves.
The route is also suitable for trail runners.

Lake Antre viewpoint
An easy hike around Villards-d'Héria with superb views of Lake Antre, the town of Moirans-en-Montagne and Lake Vouglans.Please note that access is currently prohibited: following a landslide, access to the Lac d'Antre viewpoint is prohibited until further notice. From point (2), go directly to point (4).
Please note: there has been a forest fire between points (4) and (7) since 17/08/2025 at 7 p.m. Do not attempt this route
The three lakes around Étival
Located in the heart of the forest in a most peaceful setting, the three lakes, the "Petit", the "Grand" and the "Lac de la Fauge", are home to flora and fauna characteristic of wetlands.
A nearby trail offers a panoramic view of the lakes and the village of Étival from the lookout point.

Pimpelards and Creux des Feuillées viewing platforms
A walk in the Jura forest with several viewpoints as highlights and views of the Frasnée valley.
A GPS or smartphone may be useful as there are no markings from (8).
La Quinquenouille and Dramelay
This easy hike is best enjoyed in spring and autumn if you want to make the most of the second part, which is also the most beautiful: the waterfall and stream.
It's guaranteed to be cool in summer, even with just a trickle of water.

From Chancia to Montcusel in a loop
From Chancia, I suggest you return to Montcusel via a pretty loop trail: first, you follow the Bienne River at a distance, then you climb a few hills with beautiful views, especially towards Lac de Coiselet.
Molard de Netru from Chancia
I suggest a short hike (about 1 hour) from Chancia to the small summit of Molard de Netru (491 m). There are some beautiful views to discover.
Route de la Pierre qui Vire in Dortan
The aim of the hike is to complete a circular route overlooking the village of Dortan and Lake Coiselet. There are many beautiful viewpoints along the way.
From Lac de Coiselet to Pic d'Oliferne
I suggest a route that is almost a loop, with some beautiful views, to reach the Pic d'Oliferne from Lac de Coiselet (Condes).
There are no major difficulties to encounter. At most, there are a few passages that require caution if the ground is slippery (see below).
The Pic d'Oliferne
Interesting viewpoint offering views of the Ain valley (Vouglans Dam, the Haut Jura mountain range and Mont Blanc in good weather).
The ruins of Oliferne Castle are now of considerable interest following restoration work carried out by volunteers.

Forget the wide, uninteresting track and enjoy the pleasant paths and panoramic views, where it is practically impossible to go wrong if you follow the yellow markings.

Crêtes du Mont Chabot à partir de Saint-Claude
Le Mont Chabot est une des montagnes-phare dominant la ville de Saint-Claude.Il s'agira d'accéder à sa crête en empruntant un parcours en boucle partielle permettant de visualiser de superbes points de vues sur la ville et les alentours. La randonnée est assez courte, mais attention certains passages sont relativement raides et peuvent s’avérer glissants.Attention : le parcours présenté en 2016 vient d'être partiellement remanié (lire § Infos pratiques).
The Montorient viewpoint from Saint-Laurent-la-Roche
A family walk that allows you to discover the Montorient site by crossing the village of Geruge.
The return journey is along the ridges, where the path crosses a pasture with superb views of La Bresse.
Les Chandelettes, viewpoints and fountains from Saint-Laurent-la-Roche
The village of Saint-Laurent-la-Roche is located in the Revermont hills and boasts a listed church, viewpoints over the Bresse Jura, a waterfall and fountains.
Hérisson waterfall loop from Menetrux-en-Joux
Magnificent waterfalls, among the most impressive in the Jura, whose reputation is well established. This walk leads to the foot of the torrent, which you follow to the summit, near the waterfalls and caves. It forms a loop, returning alongside the ridges, in the shade of a lush forest.
From Menetru-en-Joux to Chaux-des-Crotenay
Eleventh stage of the Échappée Jurassienne. Although relatively short,this stage is a veritable festival of natural sites, each more incredible than the last. It begins with the Hérisson waterfall trail, a refreshing escape along a picturesque path dotted with 31 waterfalls and 7 cascades, revealing breathtaking panoramas where the water flows majestically in an aquatic ballet.
You then continue your journey by entering the Haut Jura Regional Nature Park via the plateau of the seven lakes. To round off this day full of discoveries, from the Pic de l'Aigle and the Belvédère des Quatre Lacs, you can enjoy not one but several breathtaking views of four of these turquoise lakes: the lakes of Ilay, Petit and Grand Maclu, and Narlay. Dominate the whole scene from the Pic de l'Aigle and the Belvédère des Quatre Lacs... There's no denying it, this stage is spectacular!
