To get to the starting point: on the D470, follow signs for Maisod, then La Mercantine. The car park is located below the D301E2 just before the harbour master's office.
(S/E) On the D301E2, turn right towards the north-east until you see the sign for Pierre Fendue. Go up a steep hill on the left (yellow markings) towards the campsite. Pass through a clearing in the forest and you will come out on the Mont du Cerf road at the Trélachaume campsite.
(1) Follow this road to the left for 50 metres, then turn right twice towards Maisod. Turn left onto a path that runs along the right-hand side of a football pitch and enters the woods.
(2) At the first houses in Maisod, continue along Rue des Cyclamens on the left, pass the Nicoplast company and the wash house, and continue along Rue du Château. You can see the entrance to Maisod Castle in the distance. Continue in this direction.
(3) At the bend, leave Rue du Château and continue left on the walking trail (GRP® Tour du Lac de Ouglans, marked in yellow and red). The trail enters a forest of Scots pines and reaches a rocky edge with beautiful views of the lake. Continue along this path for about 1 km.
(4) At the crossroads, turn right towards the Frate viewpoint. The viewpoint is a ten-minute round trip (yellow-red then yellow markings). Go to a forest platform and follow a wide path on the left that descends to the viewpoint over the lake.
(5) Turn back.
(4) Continue along the wide, shaded path that heads south (yellow and red markings) through boxwood, oak, fir and white birch trees.
(6) At the Pierre Fendue crossroads, turn right (south-east) onto a short stony descent that passes behind the Maisod holiday village. Cross the tarmac road leading to the water treatment plant and continue opposite into the fir forest, which will take you to the lake shore (picnic tables).
Follow this path to the left along the banks to reach the road overlooking the harbour. Walk to the harbour master's office, go down the stairs on the right to the jetties, then walk past them to reach the car park (S/E).
