Car park opposite Créquy church.
(S/E) Take Rue de l’Église to join the D130, then turn left onto the D155 (Rue des Maratiaux) towards Coupelle-Vieille. Ignore Rue de Rulfort on the left and continue until you reach the sign marking the end of the built-up area.
(1) Turn left onto the uphill track (blocked by large stones). At the three-way junction, take the left-hand path: a wide track (with herds on the left) which turns right to reach a T-junction.
(2) Turn left and continue in the same direction (past the wind turbines) to reach the northern tip of the Bois de Créquy. Enter the woods and you’ll arrive near the D149.
(3) Just before this, at the sign with hiking arrows, turn left into the woodland. The path is sometimes damp and joins a small tarmac road (crossing the embankment).
(4) Cross this and take the path through the woods slightly to the left (south-west). Wide at the start, this path becomes a little more challenging towards the end. Keep heading in the same direction, passing a ‘viewpoint’. Just after this, leave the wide path to go past a hiking marker (narrow track) and reach a wide path.
(5) Turn left, then immediately right (sign prohibiting motor vehicles and a hiking marker). The trees that used to be on the right were felled in 2017 (it is now heathland with some reforestation). Follow the grassy path carefully and stay along the edge of the woodland. Ignore the wide path coming from the left and continue to the Quatre Sapins crossroads.
(6) Carry on straight ahead, between the two woods. Ignore a path coming from the left and, still following the edge of the woodland, you’ll reach a wide path.
(7) Continue to the right through the woodland and you’ll soon reach a junction (a signpost without arrows as at late July 2017). Enter the woodland via the path on the right, between the signpost and a track with a gate. You’ll come to a wide path.
(8) Cross this wide path to take the track opposite, which descends northwards. After a left-hand bend, you’ll reach a main track.
(9) Follow it to the left (it’s the ‘motorway’ now!) for about 1.5 km.
(10) At the end (viewpoint), turn left and follow the path closely as it leads to the headwaters of the Surgeon. At one point, the path disappears beneath the stream. The stream was completely dry in July 2026, so you can easily walk along its bed on a stony path as far as the signpost.
- If there isn’t too much water, follow the stream to the right (there’s an unmarked path). After a few metres, it descends back towards the stream (orange mark on a branch, early May 2025). Ford the stream and continue the descent along the left bank. You’ll soon come to a clearing on the left leading to a reasonably good path (as of early May 2025). Stay on this path until you reach a ford. Cross over (hiking marker) and head left onto a good track.
- - If the stream is very full, head into the field on the right (you’ll easily find a gap in the hedge. Watch out for barbed wire close to the ground! ) and follow it on the left. At the edge of the field, you’ll find a hiking marker. Continue straight on, following the stream.
Ignore the wide path branching off to the right and head for the edge of the woodland after a section that may be (very) wet (sign with hiking arrows).
(11) Turn left (hunting detour) and, after a steep climb, reach a crossroads.
(12) Turn right and head downhill. At the bottom, turn left and reach the D 130.
(13) Follow it to the left, running alongside the Créquoise, and, 200 metres further on, you’ll come to a footbridge on the right.
(14) Cross the Créquoise and follow it to the left. 200 metres further on, a second footbridge takes you back to the D 130. Follow it to the right, and 100 metres further on, you’ll reach the start of the Têtards path.
(15) Turn left onto this lovely uphill path which will take you back up to the higher ground. Turn left, then right, and, after passing through some woodland, you’ll reach a T-junction.
(16) Head left towards the woods. At the edge of the woods, turn right and you’ll reach a junction you passed on the way out.
(7) Leave the main path to the left and retrace your steps along the route you took on the way out to reach another junction you passed on the way out.
(6) Then turn right onto a main track. At the three-way junction, take the right-hand path and, a few metres further on, look out for a signpost on the left.
(17) Take the lovely path on the left, which takes you through the Bois des Trois Treillages and back to Créquy. At the first three-way junction, go straight ahead; then, whenever there is a choice between two paths, take the left-hand one (if in doubt, look for the Yellow Rectangles).
The ground is grassy at first, then stony: watch your ankles, especially towards the end of the walk.
Ignore a path on the left which joins Rue de Rulfort and, after a right-hand bend, you’ll reach a T-junction.
(18) Turn left, then left again to reach the car park (S/E).(18)
