Holsbeek walks

Roughly halfway between Leuven and Diest, south of Aarschot, Horst Castle stands proudly on the edge of its pond and wooded estate.This hike offers a long loop through woods and countryside around this vestige of the past.

The Heverleebos is mainly planted with majestic beech and pine trees and criss-crossed by magnificent avenues. A few winding paths break up the sometimes overly linear appearance of this forest area. Hike without description to be followed with the Visorando app.

The villages of Bossut and Gottechain were merged in 1811 to form the municipality of Bossut-Gottechain. The 1977 municipal reform incorporated both into the entity of Grez-Doiceau.With this little page of Belgian history turned, the walk starts from the square in Bossut and takes you on a route that is more rural in Wallonia and more wooded in Flanders (Meerdaalbos), another Belgian story as the route straddles the two neighbouring provinces of Brabant.

This walk is suitable for Nordic walking. Huldenberg is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, not far from the linguistic border. The region is known for its table grape cultivation and the De Doode Bemde nature reserve. Doode means 'dead' (soil unsuitable for agriculture) and Bemde means 'wet meadow'.

This invitation to discover Walloon Brabant, on the border between Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant, alternates between countryside and forest, nature and urban areas, as well as a short section in the northern zone of Wavre, passing by the unmissable GSK, one of the largest employers in Wallonia. The Fort des Voiles, also known as Ferme Rose for obvious reasons, was successively used as a glass furnace, a flour mill and a fish farm (trout).The name Fort des Voiles is thought to come from a distortion of "for à voires", which in Walloon means "glass furnace".In the 17th century, the glass industry required a lot of wood, which would explain its geographical location.The fish farm was created a little further down, along the Ruisseau du Glabais stream, and operated from 1950 until around 2000, when the presence of beavers and a sewage treatment plant, located upstream of the stream and inadequately protected against flooding, forced the owners to cease operations for health reasons.The current buildings date from the 1920s. Chaumont-Gistoux, like many places in Walloon Brabant, is full of small paths and trails connecting the villages, hamlets and neighbourhoods of the area. This is one of the highlights of the walk.

The Solvay Estate was built on land that was once part of the Sonian Forest. It owes its name to Ernest Solvay, an industrialist who invented a new process for manufacturing soda ash (used in glassmaking and metallurgy). In 1893, he acquired the estate to use as his second home. The Solvay Estate includes a beautiful château. In 1968, Ernest Solvay's grandson, Ernest-John Solvay, donated the estate to the state.

After a trip to the Sonian Forest, Miss Kika will show you around the Solvay Estate and its "Moulinsart-style" castle. Perhaps you'll bump into Professor Calculus? However, there's no chance of seeing Captain Haddock, as the park's many lakes are for freshwater sailors only!

A bucolic walk steeped in history, following in the footsteps of Marlborough.

The tour is suitable for Nordic walking, despite a few short stretches on asphalt on small country roads and some cobblestones. Ohain is renowned for its agriculture and the diversity and beauty of its landscape. Several rivers run through the municipality, such as the Lasne (a tributary of the Dyle) and a few streams, including the Ohain.

This walk will help you discover Ohain. Miss Kika will take you along small paths, trails and lanes, crossing the golf course towards the Smohain valley, which you will follow for most of the walk. Together with the Lasne river, into which it flows, it gives the village its relief, while the numerous ponds attract many species of birds. The variety of landscapes, horses and numerous marked trails are what make this town so charming.

This circular route takes you along interesting paths around the villages of Céroux-Mousty and Court-Saint-Étienne. The highlight of the walk is the Sentier du Sculpteurs (Sculptors' Trail) with its magnificent wooden sculptures. A shortcut can be taken to reduce the walk to around 6 km.

In the mysterious area of the numerous springs of the Geer, encounter the ghosts of the Lord of Herzée in the Chevées, the nuns in the former Carmelite convent, the prior of the convent in his farmhouse, and let yourself be seduced by the quiet charm of the two Lens.
