Gondrexange walks
The land of ponds: Gondrexange Pond
Route of hiking in the Sarrebourg region's lake district: discover the Gondrexange Lake.
Walking on water at the Réchicourt-le-Château lake
The Réchicourt-le-Château Lake occupies a rather unusual position. The Marne-Rhine Canal has crossed it since 1965. In fact, it was decided at that time to build the “Grand Écluse”, which made it possible to bypass nearly six locks on the old canal. As a result, a section of the route is a path flanked on either side by part of the lake. Another major attraction is the Grand Écluse itself, which features numerous facilities for tourists.
The land of ponds: Etang du Stock
This route around one of the largest ponds in the Moselle department (750 hectares) will allow you to discover the freshwater flora and fauna around the Étang du Stock.
Tour of the Étang du Stock via the Three Bridges
This is a 7.5 km route that alternates between forest paths, canal walks, pondside walks and even an urban section. The elevation gain is very low, and the paths are well maintained and passable even in rainy weather. There are also picnic areas and benches where you can rest. This short hike is ideal for families and presents no difficulty.
Discover the Grand Stock via the Cornée des Rèthes and the Rhodes Forest
Easy hike along the edge of the Étang du Stock (750 ha) starting from the picturesque little tourist village of Rhodes (Moselle). Passing through the reeds and beautiful oak forests of the Pays des Étangs, you can see the sailboats and motorboats criss-crossing the lake on fine summer days.
The large lock at Réchicourt
This circuit will introduce you to an industrial and urban area of Lorraine that has been recognised as a historic monument and protected heritage site since 2014.
You will also follow the Marne-Rhine Canal and six of its former locks, now replaced by a single lock known as "la grande écluse" (the big lock).
A bucolic walk that combines wooded and aquatic environments.
Route des Sept Roses in Saint-Quirin
Saint-Quirin is listed as one of the "most beautiful villages in France". A rich heritage of sanctuaries can be discovered in Saint-Quirin and in the parishes belonging to the priory, known as the Sept Roses route. Following this route, you will also pass by the Gallo-Roman site of Croix Guillaume.
Le Grand Rougimont-Chte Turquestein-Roche aux fées
A magnificent hike, with no major difficulties apart from access to the Grand Rougimont - the ruins of Turquestein Castle - the fairy rock and the boundary stone trail, which will take you back to the Middle Ages.
Moderator's addition on 23/08/2021: This hike will soon be prohibited as it is on private property. See the comments at the bottom of this page

The Potos Route in Saint-Quirin
The idea was to go for a walk with friends after two missed meet-ups due to the rain! So I decided to create a route for the occasion, starting from the place where I grew up.
Circular around Lettenbach
Hilly route starting from the hamlet of Lettenbach, taking the Circulaire des Quatre Roches and the Circulaire du Vieux Château. Don't miss a visit to the Verriers Church in the hamlet, which houses the crystal rose (Route des 7 Roses, remarkable chapels and churches around Saint Quirin): Renaissance façade, bulbous bell tower topped with a golden cockerel and covered, like the roof, with larch and spruce shingles. Then explore the archaeological site of Croix Guillaume (habitats, necropolis and quarries).
Val-et-Châtillon loop
An easy and very quiet hike, mostly through the woods. A few viewpoints over the surrounding forests and the sandstone rocks shaped by erosion: Roche des Druides, Roches du Corbet and Roches d'Achiffet.
Circular route of the Grand and Petit Rougimont rocks and Trois Pierres
I had wanted to hike in this mountain range for a long time, and now I've done it! There were signs prohibiting passage on a previous route, but I didn't really know where to find them, so I set off on an adventure and ended up finding an "authorised passage".
So, under a bright sun, I was able to access these iconic red sandstone rocks and enjoy the exceptional 360° view from the Grand Rougimont viewpoint over the Donon and the Lorraine plateau.
For those who appreciate the iconic natural curiosities of the Northern Vosges, don't hesitate to visit the Trois Pierres and Petit Rougimont: they are well worth the detour in a magnificent forest setting!
Wackenberg Tower
A pleasant short walk suitable for the whole family around Wackenberg, with an elevation gain of less than 100 metres.
St-Léon - Abreschviller
A walk in the Vosges foothills, under the trees and with a beautiful view of Abreschviller.
I wanted to revisit a walk I used to do regularly with my parents when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, the storm of 1999 took its toll and the path has been completely washed away in places. The Club Vosgien has redefined a new route from Saint-Léon. I preferred to go back 45 years and offer you my retro walk along the original path.
Le Canceley, Le Grand Rommelstein and Le Rocher du Calice
A beautiful hike through the forest with some slightly wild passages and beautiful views of Rocher du Canceley and Grand Rommelstein.
Long tour via Calice, Brechpunkt and Bloecherplatz to Grand Soldat
A little-used circular path in the forest, taking in the rocks, rocky outcrops and viewpoints surrounding the hamlet of Grand Soldat.
Discover unusual sites starting from Walscheid
Walscheid, a picturesque village at the gateway to the Vosges, is well worth a visit. There are many hiking trails, including this one, which takes in a wealth of attractions such as the Gallo-Roman cemetery, the ruins of Heidenschloss, the Durrenberg promontory and the Saint Léon cave.
From the Black Madonna to the Kronprinz Shelter
Blue round markings, picnic areas, tables and benches throughout the route. This route allows you to discover a few curiosities: the Black Madonna, the Kronprinz shelter (command bunker of the Prince of Bavaria) during the First World War.
The six-pond circuit from Dieuze
The Saulnois region is often described as the “Land of Salt and Ponds”. This description is well-deserved, and this route features nearly six ponds. Apart from the Étang des Essarts, which has been developed, the others are managed by the Lorraine Nature Conservancy and are completely unspoilt. Here you’ll discover a rich variety of wildlife, vegetation and colours that bear witness to a protected environment. The picnic area by the side of the main road is halfway along the route and can prove very useful.
From the Col de Roule Bacon to Grand Rougimont
A beautiful hike through the Vosges forests, on the border of three departments (Bas-Rhin, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle). Pass along the Roman road and the former border from 1871 to 1918, then on to Grand Rougimont (622m), the highest point in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Descend to the ruins of Moises and return along the Saussenrupt stream via the Trou Marmot.
Rocks and surroundings of Lac de Pierre Percée
A lovely, easy circular walk that takes you successively to the Roches de la Xaveure, the rugged shores of Lac de Pierre Percée and the Roche des Corbeaux with its beautiful viewpoint. The return journey follows part of the same route to Les Roches Bataillons, ending at the starting point at Les Trois Sapins.
The tour of Roc du Taurupt via Haut de Chaumont
A hike at the foot of the highest point in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, in a mainly forest setting, far from the crowds and the beaten track. A moving visit to the graves of German soldiers from the First World War.
Vexaincourt - Col Pourrio - Lac de la Maix
A pleasant hike in warm weather as it is mainly in the shade and mostly on paths, allowing you to discover Lac de la Maix.
The Donon Forts
A hike along the Donon fortified positions trail. From September 1914, the Vosges front stabilised on the ridges and the Donon became a defensive position of prime importance. In 1915, the Germans embarked on a colossal construction project.
Les Deux Donon
Circuit passing through the peaks of Grand and Petit Donon, using the marked trails of the Club Vosgiens and theGR®5.
Forestry work is taking place for one month until May 2024 between (10) and (11).
Le Donon
A short hike up one of the most famous peaks in the Vosges du Nord, famous for its Gallo-Roman remains and from where you can enjoy a wide panorama. The ascent is more gradual and less busy than the descent.
The Tour of the Two Donons
This walk offers some wonderful discoveries: first the temple perched on the summit of the Grand Donon, then the German military cemetery near the Col de la Côte de l’Engin, and finally the summit of the Petit Donon, which offers a beautiful view.
Cascade de la Crache, Rocher and Dolmen de la Hazelle
Set off to explore the Cascade de la Crache waterfall, the Rocher de la Hazelle rock with its view over the Plaine valley, and the Dolmen de la Hazelle dolmen above the village of Raon-sur-Plaine.
