Val-et-Châtillon loop

An easy and very quiet hike, mostly through the woods. A few viewpoints over the surrounding forests and the sandstone rocks shaped by erosion: Roche des Druides, Roches du Corbet and Roches d'Achiffet.

Description of the walk

In Val-et-Châtillon, reach Rue de la Molière and, at the end of the street, turn right at the fork to park in the car park near the cemetery.

(S/E) From the car park, go to the other side of the fork and head towards the edge of the forest.

Blue Chevalet signposting

Continue along the shaded forest path to reach the forest track after about 900 metres.

No markings

(1) Continue along this path towards "Croix Klopstein, Croix Collin" to reach the multi-directional crossroads at a place called "la Salle de Danse".

Green Rectangle Marking GR®533

(2) At the crossroads, head straight ahead towards "Croix Klopstein, Croix Collin". Pass Croix Klopstein by 500 metres, then continue straight ahead until you reach the forest road.

(3) Continue along this road to the right, pass the Club Vosgien shelter and, after a few metres, you will reach a place called "Croix Collin".

(4) Continue on the right towards "Grand Rougimont, la Croix de Fer". You will reach a place called "la Croix de fer" (a cross fixed to a tree on the left).

(5) Continue along the forest path towards "Todlaine, Col de la Charaille" to reach a crossroads after about 1.6 km.

(6) Take the forest path on the left to reach "Roche des Druides" (no signposts).

No signposts

(7) Follow the path lined with ferns and foxgloves on the left and, after about 400 m, you will reach the pretty Roche des Druides: viewpoint over the forest and Grand Rougimont.

(8) Retrace your steps to the crossroads.

(7) Continue left on the GR®533 and, after 300 m, you will reach a multi-directional crossroads. Take the forest path on the right marked "Roches du Corbet 900 m".

Blue disc markings

After about 700 m, take the path on the left (be careful, as the markings are sometimes hidden). After 200 m, you will reach a crossroads (take the path on the right to return).

(9) Continue straight ahead, following the signs for "Point de vue 70 m" (viewpoint 70 m), until you reach Roches du Corbet. This area is poorly signposted, so follow the narrow path between the fallen trees.

(10) Retrace your steps to the crossroads.

(9) Take the path on the left (signpost missing, fallen to the ground) which descends to join a wide forest track. Continue along this forest track downhill until you reach the junction with Impasse de la Gagere.

(11) Continue to the right.

Yellow disc markings

(12) At the crossroads with the road, continue towards the village of Val et Châtillon. After 100 metres, pass a small shelter on your left, then the Étang de la Gagère.

(13) Junction with the D181, follow to the right. After 500 m, turn right onto the forest path "Promenade circulaire Camille Parmentier".

Red Ring markings

(14) After a little over 200 metres, take the path on the left going up towards the "Roches d'Achiffet". The Roche du Solitaire and its bench are opposite, slightly overhanging. Go back down and continue on the narrow path on the right that winds along the rocky ridge. La Roche de la Vierge, La Roche de l'Écureuil and then La Roche Pierrot Ramella follow one after the other (clear CV markings). At La Roche Pierrot Ramella, retrace your steps, pass La Roche de l'Écureuil and continue straight on to climb up to a place called Roches d'Achiffet (bench).

(15) Facing the bench, continue on the left following the signs for "Sentier circulaire Camille Parmentier" and after about 100 m, take the path on the left.

Yellow ring markings

Further on, walk along the cemetery wall and return to the car park (S/E).

Hello, I couldn't find Roche des Druides after the junction was altered.
Apart from that, it was a lovely walk
