Circular around Lettenbach

Park on Place Chevandrier de Valdrome in Lettenbach

(S/E) Head towards Rue de la Basse Melot, climbing uphill to the hairpin bend on the D96.

(1) Leave the road on the right and take the first path on the left marked with a red ring signpost for "Roche de la Verrerie". The path winds its way uphill. Take the forest path on the left to reach the summit of Roche de la Verrerie (beautiful view of Abreschviller, several benches).

(2) Retrace your steps for about 150 metres and continue along the forest path, following the Anneau Rouge markings at each intersection, until you reach Roche des Bœufs, located just after the relay antenna. Beautiful view (benches).

(3) Continue along the Anneau Rouge trail downhill to Basse de la Rouge, at a junction of several trails.

(4) Take the narrow Anneau Rouge marked trail on the left, which winds its way up to Rocher du Moulin.

(5) Viewpoint over Abreschviller and bench. Continue along the Anneau Rouge trail and arrive at Roche de la Forge. Belvedere with bench.

(6) Retrace your steps for 200 m and take the narrow path lined with large rocks marked with the Anneau Rouge sign, which descends to the paved road of La Forge.

(7) Follow this road to the right, still following the red ring markings, which are replaced by the Route Forestière de la Basse Frentz, bearing the same markings, until you reach the junction with the Lettenbach road.

(8) Cross and continue straight ahead, following the Abreschviller narrow-gauge railway line for about 50 metres towards "Cubelot Chemin des Bornes" (red disc), cross the railway line and, on the right, turn onto the Sentier des Bornes towards "Le Vieux Château" via a small staircase and wooden railing marked with a red disc.
Follow the narrow, covered path, which is sometimes steep, until you reach the junction with the Route Forestière de la Basse Aubry, then continue to the junction with the Route Forestière de la Croix Guillaume.

(9) At this intersection, take the forest path marked with a red disc opposite, which climbs steeply in places, until you reach the intersection with the Route Forestière du Vieux Château. Follow this road to the left for 100 metres, following the blue triangle signs for "Le Vieux Château", until you reach a bench shaded by an oak tree with a sign for "Le Vieux Château". (10) To go around the rock, follow the narrow path behind the bench that passes between two rocks and continue along the same blue triangle trail (this very large pink sandstone rock bears traces of a very ancient dwelling). The circular path around the rock leads back to the oak tree.

(10) Take the Route Forestière du Vieux Château towards the Croix Guillaume Lettenbach, following the blue triangle signs to the Croix Guillaume crossroads (picnic area).

(11) Opposite the cross, take the forest path on the left towards the Gallo-Roman site on the^GR®®5(marked with two horizontal white and red rectangles) until you reach the entrance to the site, five minutes away (picnic area).

(12) Explore the archaeological site and return to the^GR®®5, then to the Croix Guillaume crossroads.

(11) Continue on the^GR®®5, a forest path descending towards Lettenbach Abreschviller, marked with a yellow ring.

(13) As you approach the hamlet, at the crossroads, continue left towards the Église des Verriers (yellow ring). The forest trail descends towards the hamlet and meets a forest path, which you take to the right to reach Rue de la Chapelle. View of the Château des Verriers, the colourful cottages and the Chapelle des Verriers. The street leads to the central square of Lettenbach (S/E).
