From Guebwiller to Rouffach through the vineyards

A long circular walk connecting two towns in the Haut-Rhin: Guebwiller and Rouffach. What makes this circular walk unique is that it mainly passes through vineyards. Other crops can be seen in the first part of the walk, but the bulk of the route is through vineyards. The return leg is particularly interesting, featuring chapels, a nature reserve and some remarkable views. The route passes through several charming villages

(S/E) With your back to the car park, head left then right to go round the church and cemetery on the left for 100 m. Turn left onto a track. Enjoy the first views of the Croix de Mission and the surroundings of Guebwiller. For the return journey, leave the path on the left and a track. Continue straight on towards the road to reach a Fork in the road on a slight incline.

(1) Turn right into the vineyards. Enjoy the views over the Alsace plain and Bergholtz. At the end of the path, head down to the right until you reach the road. Turn left to immediately join Rue Vauban.

(2) Follow it to the right to cross Bergholtz. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the cycle path. Follow it straight on, leaving Bergholtz behind, and cross a farm track at its end.

(3) Continue straight on and keep heading in the same direction. Be careful, as this section can be very muddy. The Vosges mountains come into view on the left. Opposite, you can see the Church of Notre-Dame de Rouffach. Keep heading in the same direction until you reach the Ruisseau de Holtzcanal.

A superb route, with the option to stick to the best section (17 km) in the northern part (Rouffach). The fine weather on Sunday provided a 360° panorama: vineyards, typical wine-growing villages, the Black Forest, the Alps… It was a good idea to take the ridge path to see the pulsating anemones, which are just beginning to bloom. Take in the surroundings to recharge your batteries with positive energy: particularly after the Oelberg Chapel and the Strangenberg massif, then the Bollenberg Chapel.
