Description of the walk

Car park located along the Lauch near the old station, now converted into a restaurant (l'Antica Stazione).

(S/E) Follow the Lauch, cross the bridge to the right, cross the Colmar road with care and climb up through the vineyard via the Chemin du Kitterlé. Continuing uphill, enter the forest and follow the path on the right towards the Croix des Missions, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the entrance to the Florival valley.

(1) Retrace your steps and follow the path marked with Red Cross symbols to a crossroads.

(2) Turn left onto the panoramic path marked with a Red Ring, which runs alongside the forest and offers a bird’s-eye view of the town of Guebwiller. At the next three-way junction, stay on the path marked with a Red Ring until you reach a hairpin bend.

(3) Turn left onto the path leading to the Buhl quarries. Reach the quarries and walk alongside them.

(4) Head downhill and rejoin the Red Ring marked path. Be careful, the descent can be slippery due to stones and roots.

(5) Follow the path to the left then to the right to descend to Buhl and come out onto Rue du Réservoir.

(6) Follow this street, then turn left into Rue de la Carrière. Cross the D430 with care, enter the village and join Rue du Florival by turning right for about 50 metres until you reach the junction.

(7) Turn left, cross the Lauch and continue along Rue Florival to cross through Buhl. Pass the town hall and continue along Rue Florival until you reach a roundabout.

(8) Turn right onto Rue de la Tuilerie, turn left into Rue de Murbach and, immediately on the right, take the path leading to the ruins of Hugstein Castle.

(9) Then follow the path straight down to Guebwiller, turn left into Rue du Liebenberg, which passes close to the Solisana Clinic, and continue along Rue de l’Ermite to reach Villa Bois Fleuri, now converted into a care home.

(10) Turn right onto Rue de la République, walk alongside the housing estates, then take a short detour to the left to walk past the former Florival spinning mills. Return to Rue de la République, which passes in front of Saint-Léger Church, the Market Square, the town hall and near the Dominican Church before reaching Notre-Dame.

(11) Turn left onto Rue de la Gare, then right, to reach the car park along the River Lauch (S/E).

Having lost our way after the mission cross, we took the path leading up to the quarries from above, rather than following the signposted route.
There was also a lack of detail at stage 5 regarding the descent to Buhl; we took the Appental slope, then the Trottberg path.

Everything was perfect, but the colours of the markings don’t match at all – it’s a shame, because otherwise the route is brilliant.

A really good route – a bit tough at the start going up to the Croix de Mission, but it’s fine after that.
I’d just make one comment: the route doesn’t go past the ring, which is a shame.
As I know the area, I go there and enjoy a lovely view, then rejoin the original route.
