Description of the walk

By car, take the forest road that climbs to the Fontaine des Miracles and Pierre Arnoux and turn left before reaching Pontis (Embrun side). Drive for about 1,500 metres before stopping at the path that climbs up on your right (GR® de pays-Tour du lac de Serre-Ponçon). There is little space to park your vehicle.

(S/E) Start the hike by taking this path (not signposted) on the right, which climbs very steeply into the forest.
After 400 metres, you will come to a path.

(1) Continue straight ahead.
After 900 metres, you will come to another path.

(2) Turn left. The path will take you to the Morgonnet pass.

(3) When you reach the meadow, turn right for 100 metres and then right again to go towards the Jas hut (at this point, you can continue straight ahead to make a round trip to the Morgonnet peak).

(4) From the Jas hut, where there is a table, begin your return journey by taking the path you came up on to the car park where you started (S/E).

Notes

The climb via Les Hugues that I have also described is easier and more enjoyable because it offers beautiful views. In this case, this is less so, but I like to know and share all the possible access points to a site.
Nevertheless, the Morgonnet Pass and the Jas hut are well worth a visit.

A slight variation: I did the hike to the pass, the peak and the hut.
A very short hike in terms of distance, with a steep climb in two or three places and no technical difficulty.

For this hike, it is best to start on the right: better views of the lake and a slightly gentler climb.

Thank you, snap13, for this initial feedback from the field.
I imagine the view from Morgonnet must be beautiful, even though the lake has now receded considerably.
By the way, it's Lake Serre-Ponçon that borders Savines-le-Lac.

Great hike with superb views all along the climb... The short detour to the Morgonnet peak is a must, with its 360° view of the Ubbaye and Durance valleys, including Lake Ste Savine and Lake Serre Poncon.
Thank you for this route.
