Pierre Arnoux as seen from Les Eygoires

Coming from Savines-le-Lac, park your car in the small car park on the right, before the bridge and the campsites.
Opposite the car park, head up alongside the stream along a small path which, due to a lack of maintenance, is no longer signposted.
(1) 150 metres further on, take the path on the left. This is where the ‘real’ climb begins. After another 200 metres, take the path on the right (2), signposted ‘Pierre Arnoux’ (the path on the left leads to Savines-le-Lac), and follow it for about 800 metres.
When you reach a cross-country track, turn right. Be careful – here you’re straying slightly off the beaten track. After keeping to the right, 800 metres further on, take the tiny, barely visible path that climbs up through the trees (3).
And here, the path more or less disappears. You’ll need to be able to read the terrain to find traces of the path. It continues to climb steeply, then you’ll reach the forest track (4), which you’ll take to the right and follow for about 1,200 metres.
Do not take the path leading uphill to the right 800 metres further on, signposted ‘Pierre Arnoux’ (5); instead, carry on straight ahead, going round the hill, then head uphill to the right where the viewpoint is signposted.
(6) At this viewpoint, take the path opposite heading towards “Pierre Arnoux” and, surprise, there are 20 cars parked there. Yes indeed, the well-maintained forest road reaches all the way here. Let’s not lose heart, but let’s get out of here…
On the right, after the picnic area, head down the path which leads onto the forest road(5). Turn left and, 200 metres further down, turn right. Carry straight on after crossing the forest road again, and you’ll rejoin the path you took on the way there, which you’ll follow – with a few minor variations possible – all the way back to the car park.

A small tapped spring (100m before (5)) flows into a fountain before reaching Pierre Arnoux, but don’t rely on it too much as it does occasionally run dry.
