The mills of the upper Essonne valley

Before motorisation, milling was highly developed along the banks of the Essonne. This hike sets out to discover no fewer than five old water mills, whose presence has been documented since the 18th century. The route along the river is full of charm and the numerous reed beds add a touch of natural heritage to this very diverse hike.
Spirou route around the Buthiers leisure centre
Welcome to the Buthiers Leisure Island. This discovery hike was specially created for a Year7 integration trip. Relatively easy and easily adaptable, it will allow you to have a great time. It allows you to discover all the landscapes of the Fontainebleau forest around the base and, of course, to observe the many activities on offer there.

Rock art in the Forest of Fontainebleau

A short, easy themed route showcasing rock art discovered in the Forest of Fontainebleau and in the south of the Île-de-France region. Seven chronological information panels, with representations of the landscape at the time, photos and casts of engravings, take us on a journey from the Palaeolithic era to the present day.
The route was designed, developed and is maintained by the ONF.
The “Circuit des 25 Bosses” (the 25 Bumps Circuit)

As the name suggests, is this route ascends 25 mounds that form a circuit of the of the Trois Pignons forest. A hike amid the rocks that makes an excellent training run before mountain hikes in the summer.
N.B. The elevation is underestimated: between 800 and 900 metres total cumulative change in altitude. It’s difficult to find a larger change in altitude in the Ile-de-France, unless you want to take the steps up and down the Eiffel Tower three times on the trot. Expect to be walking for 6 to 7 hours.

From Maisse to La Ferté-Alais via Ile Ambart

A hike from station to station in the Essonne Valley. After climbing up through the Bois de Saint-Médard and crossing a cultivated plateau, you pass through the charming hamlets of Courdimanche. You walk alongside the river several times, cross a small island, and the Marais de Jarcy may be of interest to nature lovers. Several churches and a few wash houses are also along the way.
Loop of Milly-la-Forêt via the Vanne and Loing aqueducts

A hike that alternates between villages rich in heritage (old market hall, churches, wash houses, castle) and a trail through the Forêt des Trois Pignons dotted with sandstone rocks.
The woods of Milly and Malabri

The route is mainly through forest, with a few small sandstone rocks in places, starting from the centre of Milly-la-Forêt with its rich heritage (church, wash houses, castle).
Panoramic views of the Trois Pignons

A beautiful hike with some elevation gain in the wildest and most beautiful areas of the Trois Pignons massif. It combines the beautiful Dénécourt trail no. 16 (the Sentier des Belvédères via the Laris Qui Parle) with a more athletic section of the Circuit des 25 Bosses. Actual elevation gain (altimeter measurement): 580m.
In the Massif des Trois Pignons

The Massif des Trois Pignons is situated on the edge of Fontainebleau forest. The walk takes you past the Rocher des Guetteurs, the Sables du Cul du Chien, the Diplodocus, and the Rocher de la Tortue.
Sentier des Belvédères

A course over hills, with beautiful views of the Massif des Trois Pignons. Passages on platières in the middle of the moor with an unobstructed view, interspersed with passages in undergrowth and amid boulders. A varied, rather sporty hike.
N.B. The drop is probably underestimated: expect something more in the order of 300 metres.
Bois-Rond, a morning circuit

A simple and varied circuit in the forest of Fontainebleau, with views above the trees and rocks, and different landscapes every kilometre.
Please note that weather conditions and the use of certain paths by mountain bikes can make this hike muddy and very slippery in places. Therefore, please be very careful.
Du plateau du Coquibus à celui des Belvédères par le Rocher aux Voleurs

A hike in a little-visited part of the Forêt des Trois Pignons, through several biological reserves. This varied route alternates between forest paths, trails that wind between rocks and open stretches on flat rock outcrops.
This hike requires a good sense of direction.
In the heart of the Coquibus massif

This long hike takes you on a fairly comprehensive tour of the magnificent Coquibus massif: heather-covered plateaus and water holes, deciduous woods, rocks, viewpoints, the Vanne aqueduct (sandstone steps), etc.
The Coquibus Massif and the Hundred Steps

This route goes around the Coquibus Massif, in a little-known and little-used area that is generally shaded. There are some beautiful views of the Courance Plain to the north and the forest to the south. The Vanne Aqueduct and the Cent Marches are the main points of interest.
The Virgin Tower and other viewpoints from Arbonne-la-Forêt
A half-day walk that takes you to the Tour de La Vierge, the Vanne and Loing aqueducts, and the viewpoints of Hurlevent and Hautes Plaines. All this while following part ofthe GR®11 trailthrough beautiful rocks and quiet connecting paths where you can relax.
Please note: the walk is 14 km long with 300 m of elevation gain. It is quite challenging for a relatively short hike.

An easy route, ideal for a family outing. The hike takes you through varied landscapes: deciduous forest, coniferous forest, heathland, rocks, etc.
Les Platières des Béorlots and the Mare des Couleuvreux

A varied route in the Fontainebleau forest, off the beaten track and within biological reserves. High forests, moors, plateaus and rocks alternate, with the Mare des Couleuvreux adding a touch of mystery to these landscapes.
The Carte du Tendre in the Forest of Fontainebleau

Embark on a journey to Cythera, follow paths of seduction and tenderness, and make a date with happiness on this hike in the southern part of the Forest of Fontainebleau. In one area of this vast forest, the paths have been named after romantic figures... On this very wooded route, other references are used to name the paths: different kinds of birds, bandits and other criminals, and even the pope...
Rocher de la Combe, Rocher des Demoiselles: quarries and romantic paths

This walk explores the Rocher de la Combe and its spectacular quarries, and flirts with the Rocher des Demoiselles, part of which is covered by the Blue loop. The surrounding paths are enchanting: Route de la Beauté, Carrefour du Bonheur, where you will encounter Dryads, Satyrs and Fauns.
Many of the paths are very quiet. And as always in Fontainebleau, there is a great variety of vegetation.
There are numerous changes of direction, so remain vigilant.
On the flat areas around Arbonne

From the village of Arbonne, take a tour of the various plateaus to see some of the curiosities of the Fontainebleau forest, such as a small mausoleum, an engraved canopy, a cave, a quarryman's shelter, etc.
Panoramic views between Franchard and Cornebiche

A walk that takes in several forest viewpoints and passes through little-known areas and quiet paths. Moderately challenging with some steep climbs.
Le Cul de Chaudron, the Rocher de Milly and the Cuisinière

This hike showcases much of the diverse landscape of the Fontainebleau Forest: rocky outcrops, plateaus, deciduous forests, pine forests, heathland, ponds and sweeping views.
Les Gorges de Franchard and l'Antre des Druides

Starting from an old retreat which has been visited since the 11th century, this hike allows you to explore the Gorges de Franchard and the surrounding areas. Winding through rocks and several rock shelters such as the well-known Antre des Druides.
N.B. The difference in altitude is probably higher than stated: roughly 100 metres and a 2 hour walk.
The Rocher du Long Boyau and the Gorges du Houx

From the Ermitage de Franchard, this is a very varied hike which will take you past old sandstone quarries, the Gorges du Houx and the charming Mare aux Pigeons. On the route are several vast viewing points, numerous spectacular rocks and the curious Grotte du Serment cave.
N.B. The elevation and the time shown appear to be under-estimated: count on about 250 meters and 4 hours of walking.
