Wooded trail around Boissy-aux-Cailles

We pass on either side of a valley where the beautiful village of Boissy-aux-Cailles is located, following paths wide enough to walk two abreast while chatting, or trails in single file. The variety of tree species is surprising: oak, chestnut, birch, beech, pine, etc. And also on the edges of agricultural fields where lavender grows alongside beetroot and cereals.
The best times to enjoy it to the full are late spring (May-June), when the flora dazzles us with its colours and scents, and autumn (mid-September-October), when the leaves of the trees are adorned with their yellow, ochre and red colours and accompanied by the rich and subtle smells of mushrooms and sometimes game.

Description of the walk

Meet at the cemetery car park.

(S/E) With your back to the cemetery entrance, follow the wall on your left, cross the road coming from the church, then follow the edge of the forest on your left until you reach a Y-junction.

(1) Continue to the right, going up into the forest, until you come to a quiet road coming from Marlanval, where you leave the forest to reach the Route de Boissy. Follow it to the right for 250 metres to reach the D16a1.

(2) Turn right and stay on the right-hand side of the road. Continue along the plateau, passing the water tower, and descend towards the village of Boissy-aux-Cailles. Take the road on the right at the entrance to the village and continue to a pedestrian crossing.

(3) Take the pavement on the left, walk 200 metres, then take a path between two houses (at number 80). Cross a small field to find the path that climbs towards the small wood of Les Buttes. Descend slightly towards Le Goulot to reach a carriage road. Take it on the left to arrive on a small road at Haut du Goulet.

(4) Turn right onto this road, which climbs gently between fields and copses. At the top of the hill on the plateau, continue until you find a path on the right separating two fields; this is the GR®1 combined with the GR®32.

(5) Turn right onto these GR® trails, marked in white and red. Cross a beautiful forest, then fields, and arrive at a road in the Vallée du Carrefour.

(6) Take it to the left, staying on the left side of the road, in single file. Reach a bend in the road, stay alert in this bend, on the right, tight with no visibility, as there is no shoulder on the right. Continue for 250 m, then cross carefully and turn right, still on the GR®. Continue along this beautiful sandy path through a forest of pine, chestnut, birch, beech and oak trees. You will reach a crossroads with several directions at the entrance to the private Fourche wood.

(7) Keep left on the GR® trail and continue straight ahead to reach the Chapelle de Fourche chapel.

(8) Continue straight ahead and you will soon reach a Y-shaped fork.

(9) Leave the GR® here, turn left, almost 180°, and follow a narrower path for 700 m until you come to a new stony path. Take this path to the right and you will see a sign for the Fontaine de Fourche on your left. Follow this path to reach the fountain.

(10) Stay left on the path and rejoin the GR®; turn right for a few metres until you reach the crossroads with several directions, which you passed on the way there.

(7) Continue straight ahead on the yellow-marked PR®, stay in the forest and then reach the edge of the forest at a place called Montbas de la Valterie, at a crossroads.

(11) Leave the PR®, turn right and follow the edge of the woods. Turn left and you will reach the houses of Le Fief.

(12) Turn left (east) to walk along the edge of the woods again, reaching a four-way crossroads.

(13) Cross the PR® and continue straight ahead to the edge of a field. Continue along the path, passing through the field, 20 metres from the edge. After 400 metres, the path turns right at a right angle, to the right of the forest horn, to reach the Haute Borne menhir.

(14) Turn right, back into the forest, and rejoin the PR®. Follow it straight ahead for about 200 metres; further on, you will reach the Vallée de l'Église path.

(15) Here you have two options:
- take the path on the right to easily reach the car park at the Boissy-aux-Cailles cemetery (S/E),
- continue straight ahead, following the route on the map, descend under a canopy of trees until you reach a new path in a clearing.

(16) Leave the PR® here, turn right and return to the initial crossroads you passed on the way there.

(1) Take the path on the right, in the opposite direction to the outward journey, to return to the car park at the Boissy-aux-Cailles cemetery (S/E).
