Chemin de la Rimarde from La Neuville-sur-Essonne

A very bucolic trail between the banks of the Rimarde with a few private mills, woods on the heights of Les Vaux, valleys on La Couture and Vautaupin (alternative route). Many varied landscapes. Pass by the mysterious fountain of Saint-Amand in the village of La Neuville-sur-Essonne.

Description of the walk

Parking is available near the church.

(S/E) Starting from the church in La Neuville-sur-Essonne, take the Ruelle de Guicherie GR®32 and GR®655 East. At an intersection, continue straight ahead and descend to the Rimarde.

(1) After the bridge, take the path on the left and follow the river for 1.5 km to the Mesnil mill.

(2) At the second bridge (you can take alternative route 1 at this point), continue straight ahead until you reach the L'Œuf river. When you reach thethird bridge, take a moment to admire the mill wheel. Turn left and you will come to a fork in the road.

(3) At the junction, leave the GR®32 and GR®655 East and climb left onto the plateau to reach the Route des Vaux.

(4) Turn left, descend to the hamlet of Les Vaux, then enter the woods (caution: this path is impassable during periods of high water and heavy rain, as it is muddy and prone to flooding). You will reach the Petiton footbridge over the river.

(5) After crossing, take the track on the right and 300 m further on, take the path on the left which climbs up to the Paradis borehole on the plateau. When you reach the borehole, take a good straight track on the right to the D523 (La Neuville - Yèvre).

(6) Cross it (carefully) and continue straight ahead, leaving the hamlet of Les Coutures on your left and descending through the woods to join the D25 (La Neuville - Givraines).

(7) Turn right (caution!) and continue for 120 m, then take the grassy path on the left. Continue along the woods until you reach the tarmac road.

(8) Turn left onto it. Continue straight ahead for 1,200 metres.

(9) Before the descent, take the path on the right for 300 metres. (Option to take alternative route 2 at this point.)

(10) At the next intersection, continue along the woods on the left for 800 metres.

(11) Take the first path on the left into the fields.

(12) At the end, keep left and after 500 metres, turn right onto the D312 (La Neuville – Echilleuses).

(13) Turn right and continue for 350 metres (take care!).

(14) At the first intersection, take the dirt track on the left for 250 metres.

(15) At the next intersection, turn left and continue to the end.

(16) Take the road on the right for 200 metres.

(17) At a fork, take the road on the left and go downhill to reach the road (La Neuville – Ondreville) opposite the Macheron farm.

(18) Turn left (take care!) and continue for 450 m.

(19) At the first fork, turn left onto Rue du Pourtour Est and continue for 500 metres.

(20) At the bend on the left, take Ruelle des Barrières on the right. Take the time to look at the Fontaine de Saint-Amand fountain on the right. On the left, you will see the ruins of the Château de La Neuville-sur-Essonne. Then return to the church (S/E).

Hello to the team, this route is idyllic along the Rimarde and stunning right up to the spring catchment on the IGN map! After that, it’s an endless stretch of cultivated fields treated with fertilisers! Often there are no markings on the ground, so it would be great if you could add a return route – that would be brilliant! We have the same issue on the “Aulnay la rivière” route on the same site! Alternatively, the return journey could be via forest paths upstream of the cultivated fields, which are of no interest in themselves... Thank you for listening. Eruca Lux Romanorum
