Oxfordshire walks

A circular walk from Henley-on-Thames Station with a lovely pub, The Flower Pot, halfway. Returning through a deer park with spectacular views of the Thames and the Chilterns. Good parking at Henley-on-Thames station.

A pleasant linear walk along the Thames Path between Henley-on-Thames and Marlow. The path is easy to follow and is almost all downhill. There are a number of public transport options to return to the start.

This walk on North Wessex Downs offers some wonderful views as well as the opportunity to explore some fine ancient monuments. These include the Uffington White Horse, Uffington Castle and Wayland's Smithy Long Barrow.

During this circular walk you will enjoy three delightful villages, some open countryside and farmland, quiet lanes and an attractive section of the Oxford Canal. This is walk 34 from the 44 composing the Millenium Way.

An interesting and varied walk along the stream/river valleys of the River Glyme and a tributary, and through the park of a country house with several eccentric features. On the way, you can stop at a nature reserve of natural Cotswold limestone grassland. The first half of the walk follows Shakespeare's Way.

Apart from a short climb mid-way through, it is easy walking for the rest of the route. ⚠️ During the Henley Regatta a section of the Thames Path is closed and there is a signposted diversion route.

Oxford Hill Witney to South Leigh circular walk. A leisurely walk with some nice scenery, a lake and a bird sanctuary. The Masons Arms pub at South Leigh. Mostly B roads and single-track roads.

Explore Foxholes : stroll through rolling countryside, woodland and quiet villages. Starting in Shipton-under-Wychwood, this 11 km circular walk takes in ancient woodland at the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust’s (BBOWT) Foxholes nature reserve.

A long and interesting walk mainly over flat countryside but some of the footpaths en route are currently quite badly overgrown.

A varied walk between two market towns in the Vale of the White Horse. After climbing Foley Hill for the view it is a flat route across the vale to Wantage. Both town centres have plenty of facilities for a refreshing drink or a meal or even accommodation.

Abingdon to Steventon following some of the old Berkshire and Wiltshire canal. Start along the Ock valley path through Abingdon and then head west out into flat fields. Some good paths to start with however some of the paths in the fields as you approach Steventon are not well maintained. The final fields into Steventon at Hill Farm often contain cattle. I would generally advise this as a dry weather walk. The footpath out of Abingdon suburbs is poor and I have adjusted the route to follow roads and tracks. After passing under the railway on the ranch to Steventon the OS footpaths are not reliable; at one point the path was ploughed and planted with wheat so I followed the field edge for some time. The X2 bus runs between Abingdon and Steventon 7 days a week so can be used to close the loop.

6 miles almost entirely off road and flat walk from Steventon to Abingdon with a return journey on X2 bus (you can park in Steventon Village Hall). If you walk on a Sunday morning, you can have a coffee and cake at Sutton Courtenay weirs. On a hot day there is plenty of opportunity for a dog to swim in the Thames. As you pass behind Sutton Courtenay there are a few footpath options; however, whatever route you take you'll end up close to the Church, and the George or Sawan pubs before headding to Sutton Courtenay Weirs. Then follow the Thames Path to Abingdon.

This walk gives fine views of the Berkshire Downs and the Oxfordshire plain and takes in the Maharajah’s Well in Stoke Row.

An undulating stile free walk exploring the Chilterns countryside between the south Oxfordshire village of Binfield Heath and Crowsley Park.
