Suze walks

The massif is a perched syncline. This small mountain offers exceptional views of the Diois and southern Vercors regions. On a clear day, there is a superb view of the Grand Veymont, the 3 Becs, Roche Colombe and the syncline of the Saou forest. Chapel and viewpoint at the Croix de Saint-Pancrace.

This trail crosses a property where Scottish Highland cows graze. The trail then climbs up to the Savel Plateau, where a panoramic view opens up before you.

Hike through the forest to the ridges and their highest point at 1015 m. Beautiful views over the Rhône Valley and the Vercors Massif. The descent then follows a wide forest path before arriving in a roadless grassy valley where wild horses and Highlander cows live side by side.

On this well-shaded hike, in addition to the various views of the Rhône valley, the Ardèche, the southern Vercors, the Trois Becs and the Saoû forest, we also encountered a young deer enjoying some foliage and a squirrel frightened by our presence. Unfortunately, we also saw the damage caused by the box tree moth.

At the gateway to the Vercors, at the end of a long ridge at an altitude of 1,000 metres, this rocky promontory is visible for dozens of kilometres around. The site offers a remarkable panorama of the village, which it overlooks by nearly 200 metres, the Rieussec and Gervanne valleys and the high plateaus of the Vercors, the Diois, the Trois Becs and the Montagne Saint-Pancrace. The place is peaceful at sunrise and offers an interesting view of the plateau stretching around the village with its farms, temple, chapel and castle. The elevation gain is modest and the distance is short. The loop makes the climb less difficult. We chose to start from the Church of Notre-Dame, at the bottom of the village, to discover this well-renovated Romanesque heritage site.

A long walk with beautiful views, with no difficulty other than the length, on trails and paths through fairly sparse pine forests.

A lovely autumn hike offering numerous views of the Vercors, the peaks of the Saoû forest and the Baronnies. The route crosses rural farmland, where vineyards and fields give way to forest. There is a bit of road at the start.

The absence of houses gives this hike a wild feel. This route, which takes us to an altitude of 1,000 metres, offers beautiful views of the Trois Becs, the Saou Forest, the Ambel Plateau, the Rhône Valley and the Monts Ardéchois.

This chapel is on the ridge of the Forest of Saoû, above the ruins of an old priory. At the top of the climb from La Clastre, hikers have breathtaking views of the hanging valley of Saoû.

La Baume Cornillane is an exceptional site due to its geography and history. La Raye is a superb viewpoint: Baronnies, Vercors, Roc de Toulaud, Tête de la Dame and Plateau d'Ambel. The ridges are superb.

How about taking a trip back a few million years to find yourself at the centre of the original world (Pangaea)? La Baume-Cornillane claims this location and there are a few information panels at the top of the village explaining it in more detail. The rest of the route will take you up to the heights of Pas de la Croix, then back through the forest to the car park and back to the 21st century.

From the centre of the world (Pangaea) before continental drift, to the Middle Ages, via local legends about the cave that gave the village its name (Baume = cave in Provençal), this is a varied family walk starting from the charming village of La Baume-Cornillane: old stones, hidden paths, stunning landscapes, a stream and a petrifying waterfall (sometimes so petrified that it is dry!) and a remarkable cave.

A pleasant walk in the hills above Crest offering beautiful views of the southern Vercors, the peaks of the Saoû Forest, the Ardèche mountains and the Drôme valley. As a bonus, you can explore Crest and its heritage at the start and end of the walk.

A short, wild loop very close to Baume-Cornillane, which can be adapted for a short half-day outing.

The Druise waterfall, an impressive 72-metre drop, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the Vercors. The view from below is breathtaking: the high waterfall looks like a bridal veil, accompanied by a thunderous roar and a huge blast of air.

This lovely hike goes all the way around Taillefer, passing through Saint-Andéol-en-Quint, Vachères-en-Quint and the two Col de Vachères (north and south). Beautiful views of Vercors, Bec Pointu, Tête de la Dame, Montagne de Glandasse and Les 3 Becs. Good news at the end of the route: you no longer have to wade through the Sépie river, but can cross via a very pretty footbridge!

A circular walk starting from the village of L'Escoulin in the wild Sépie valley, with the highest point being the Taillefer (932 m). The route, which follows little-used paths and trails, is often through forest with beautiful views of the Drôme mountains (Bec Pointu, Tête de la Dame and the southern edge of the Vercors, Glandasse, Trois Becs).

This unusual spot offers a complete change of scenery, with a crevasse that plunges into nowhere and a calm, sombre atmosphere among rocky outcrops, lichens and ferns. The return route takes you along a track with seven hairpin bends that illustrate the art of building passages carved into the rock on the mountain side and masonry on the side facing the void.

An unusual spot with a crevasse that descends into nowhere, offering a calm and sombre atmosphere among rocky outcrops, lichens and ferns. Please note! The route has been changed to avoid the Ferme du Pêcher du Bas. At (1), go straight ahead, then take a path on the right and head straight for (3).

Walk in the hills above Barcelonne to enjoy views of the plain from the tower of the old feudal castle and discover the Sainte-Marguerite Chapel perched above Combovin.

Like a ship, the massif stands at the foot of the Vercors and offers a panoramic view of the Drôme and Rhône valleys. In good weather, you can see the snow-capped peaks of the Alps and, on the opposite side, the Cévennes. Several contemplative breaks are necessary to discover these landscapes. Please note that the route passes through a quiet zone for wildlife. Certain sections are closed to the public between 15 May and 15 July. A wild hike, allowing you to reach the summit of Bec Pointu and then return via Courcousson and the Pré des Chaux meadow. The circuit follows several panoramic ridges, offering 360° views of the Gorges d'Omblèze, the Roc de Toulau, the Tête de la Dame, the Vercors ridges, the Glandasse, and the Quint and Gervanne valleys.

The summit of the Tête de la Dame offers superb views of the Diois, the Drôme valley and the Vercors massif.
