Saint Véran - Col Agnel

(S) When leaving the lodge, take the road on the right. At the first bend, take the road to the Clausis Chapel (signposted). Continue to the toll barrier.

(1) Descend to the left along the wide track that leads to the valley where the Aigue Blanche flows.

(2) Cross the Aigue Blanche stream over the bridge and then walk up the left bank for about 3 km.

(3) Cross the stream to reach the Clausis chapel. Head due east to reach the Rocher des Marrous crossroads. To the left is the^GR®58, to the right is a variant (not shown on the map but well marked in red and white).

(4) Take this alternative route on the right, which leads to the Saint Véran border pass (signposted).

(5) Continue left along the border and follow the ridge path that leads to Pic de Caramantran (3,021 m).

(6) Then descend to the left to reach the Col de Chamoussiére, where you will find the^GR®58.

(7) Follow it to the right in a westerly direction and into the Combe Noire de Chamoussiére.

(8) Cross the Riou du Rocher Long (upper part of the Aigue Agnelle) and reach the refuge on the plateau below the Col Agnel (E).

There are a few springs along the route, notably at the Chapelle de Clausis.
Stop at the Col Agnel refuge.
Those who want to vary their route by attempting the Tête des Toillies route can stop at the Blanche refuge.

Here, there are peaks over 3,000 metres to climb:
Caramantran, of course, but also the Tête des Toillies, Rubren, Malacoste and, further away in Ubaye, Chambeyron.
