Rougon walks

A beautiful circular loop for admiring the Gorges du Verdon in a more intimate way and from different viewpoints. Sumptuous panoramic views of the Grand Canyon and Colle de Breïs and, of course, Point Sublime. A challenging route, well suited to trail runners: it climbs for most of the route but with a reasonable gradient. Then comes a short but fairly steep descent, which proved less difficult than it looked.

Overlooking the village of Rougon and located at an altitude of over 1,200 metres, the Plateau du Suech offers beautiful panoramic views where, with a little luck, you can admire the griffon vultures of the Verdon.

This round trip route takes you to the Samson Corridor, which marks the entrance to the Grand Canyon. Circular starting from the village of Chasteuil in the commune of Castellane. There is a steep climb before reaching the summit of Pré Chauvin with its 360° view. Descent from the Pas du Loup ridge towards Les Cadières. Towering over the Verdon at over 1,545 m, the cliffs of Les Cadières de Brandis dominate the landscape. (Cadiero comes from the Occitan language and means chair, and Cadières de Brandis could be translated as Wobbly Chairs).

However, the trickiest part is the Imbert ladders (6 ladders, 252 steps), which are difficult for hikers prone to vertigo. The difference in altitude is overestimated. Tour of the Barre de la Sapée and Rocher du Castel de Ruel, via Cadières de Brendis, from the Col des Lèques, with superb views of the Verdon and surrounding area from the summit.

Climb Chiran via another route, starting from the village of Blieux. You will reach the Chiran observatory after a beautiful 1,000 m climb through vegetation typical of the Southern Alps. In spring, this hike is beautiful with its colourful orchids on the plateau. At the summit, there is a magnificent 360° view. This hike is not technically difficult and is very easy to navigate.

Through Castellane and along shaded paths, visit the famous and renowned Notre Dame du Roc.

The climb up the Grand Margès is challenging. The round trip means you don't need two vehicles. At the summit, the panoramic view of the Lac de Sainte-Croix, the Issioule ridges, the Verdon Gorge and even the Alps is magnificent.

A hike to the end of the world. The starting village is very sparsely populated, with about ten inhabitants, and the trail is very quiet except perhaps during mushroom season.

A hike above the Asse Valley offering views of the narrow Melle Gorges and the landscapes of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. You can climb to 1,200 metres, where an isolated chapel on the plateau is the only remnant of a hamlet that was home to great acts of resistance before being destroyed.

A lovely walk from Bargème and its castle to the banks of the Artuby with its turquoise waters. You will enjoy splendid views of the surrounding area as far as Mont Coudon. Part of the walk is in the sun (take care in summer) and part is in the woods (very pleasant).
