In Laruns, take the D 934 leading to the Col du Portalet. Pass Lac de Fabrège and park at a place called Caillou de Soques.
(S/E) Head east along a path that climbs through the beech forest. This path is quite steep at first but then levels out. At the edge of the forest, you will come to a footbridge.
(1) Cross it to cross the Arrious stream and climb up the right bank. Follow the valley along the Arrious stream. The path winds its way through pastures where numerous herds graze during the summer. Arrive to the left of the Arrious hut.
(2) Continue climbing. Further on, pass near the Quèbe d'Arrious, a large block of granite transformed into a shelter with stones. Continue climbing via tight hairpin bends until you reach the fork for Pic d'Arriel.
(3) Stay along the stream and cross to the right bank a little further on, then return to the left bank. A few more hairpin bends will take you to the Col d'Arrious.
(4) Here there are two options:
- for the more adventurous: head right towards Lac d'Arrious, join the path above the lake that leads to the Orteig pass. Here, take care to follow the natural ledge running more or less horizontally along the cliff. Although equipped with a handrail, this passage requires the utmost caution.
- For everyone else: follow the exit route and descend the switchbacks to reach the Lac d'Artouste crossroads.
(5) Climb up to the right via numerous switchbacks to reach a sort of plateau.
(6) Continue on almost flat ground to the Arrémoulit Lakes and the Arrémoulit refuge.
(7) Retrace your steps to return to the Caillou de Soques car park (S/E).
