Pas de Berrièves walks
Hauts Plateaux du Vercors via the Pas de Berrièves and the Pas de la Ville
A magnificent circular route on the Vercors High Plateaus. Access via the little-used Pas de Berrièves. Panoramic views to one side over the Chartreuse, the distant Mont Blanc, Belledonne, the Écrins and the Dévoluy. On the other side, views over the vast, wild expanse of the Vercors High Plateaus. The route passes two rare sights: the (not very productive) springs at Le Playe and La Chau. Return via the Pas de la Ville, where you might spot some ibex. You can buy organic cheese at the farm so you don’t go home empty-handed.
La Jasse du Play and the Pas de Berrièves
The hike to the Pas de Berrièves (1,887 m) offers an immersive experience of the wild heart of the Hauts Plateaux du Vercors Nature Reserve. You’ll pass through forests of mountain pine, high-altitude meadows and suspended scree slopes. At the summit, the view opens out, on one side, onto the vast, deserted expanse of the plateau, and, on the other, onto a barrier of cliffs, facing Mont Blanc and the Écrins . The area is ideal for spotting ibex, marmots and griffon vultures.
Walks near Pas de Berrièves
From the Jasse du Play to the Baraque du Pison
The second stage of the Vercors crossing. Less elevation gain than the previous day, but still a good distance. However, we’re now properly entering the Vercors plateau, and a map, a compass and a good sense of direction are essential, especially when it’s foggy!
Jasse du Play shelter - Pré Peyret hut
The fourth stage of this crossing is also the least physically demanding. Very flat and short, it takes you across vast meadows. But you can spice it up with the Grand Veymont option.
Gresse en Vercors - Pas des hollowed-out tree trunks serving as drinking troughs
The first stage starts at Champ de l'Herse and goes to Pas des Bachassons. It passes by the Brisou ridge, offering a first panoramic view. There is a climb of over 1,000 metres, but you will be rewarded by the beauty of Pas des Bachassons.
Cabane de la Peyrouse - Cabane des Aiguillettes
Day3 of our traverse: setting off from the Cabane de la Peyrouse to reach Gresse en Vercors. We go round the Grand Veymond to climb back up onto the plateau via the Col des Bachassons (water), then stop at the Cabane de l’Aiguillette.
Cabane des Aiguillettes - Corrençon-en-Vercors
The fourth and final day of the circular route leading from the L'Aiguillette hut at the foot of the Grand Veymont to the car park at the Corrençon-en-Vercors ski stadium, where we will have left a car.
Pas of hollowed-out tree trunks serving as drinking troughs
The second day takes you to the highest point of the route: Le Grand Veymont. It offers a magnificent view of the Vercors high plateaus, Mont Aiguille and the valley. There is a good chance of seeing ibex and marmots!
Pré Peyret Shelter - Chatillon-en-Diois
The fifth and final stage of this journey through the Vercors. We set off to tackle the Glandasse, with superb views of the high plateaus, the Veymont, Mont Aiguille and the Drôme Provençale.
Pré Peyret – Col de Vassieux Hut
The second stage of our Corrençon–Ambel–Corrençon circular route set off from the Cabane de Pré Peyret towards the Col du Rousset and then on to the Cabane du Col de Vassieux.

The first day is a long one, starting at the foot of Mont-Aiguille with alternating steep climbs and gentler passages through mountain pastures and forests.
From the Baraque du Pison to the Cabane de l’Essaure
This is the third stage of this Vercors traverse. We’re now reaching the southern part of the Vercors plateau, where the terrain and vegetation make navigation very tricky, but the scenery becomes absolutely stunning!
