Description of the walk

Start from the large car park opposite Enquin town hall on the D158.

(S/E) Follow the D158 towards Erny-Saint-Julien. At the first crossroads, turn right onto Rue de la Brasserie. Drive down to the Lacquette, cross it and turn left.

(1) Under the church and opposite the beautiful Spanish mill, cross the Lacquette again (footbridge or ford for enthusiasts) and reach the D158 opposite the calvary. Turn right into Rue du Calvaire. At the fork, turn right onto a grassy path and join the D77. Follow it to the left for 300m.

...(2) Take the right-hand path to reach a T-junction. Turn left and, a few metres further on, right to climb Mont de Cuhem.

(3) At the edge of the Bois des Moines, take the path on the left with the GR®127 (white and red markings). This is a beautiful downhill path, unfortunately regularly massacred by quadbikes and other "green" motorcycles (excellent on August 15, 2020).
Keeping the same direction, reach the tarmac. Turn right to reach Cuhem and the D159.

(4) In the village, follow the GR®127 signs. Follow the D159 to the right, reach the church and turn left immediately. Follow the cemetery, then turn left at the first crossroads to join the D77 (route de Saint-Omer).

(5) Follow this for 100m, then turn right onto the D159.

(6) At the fork, turn right and climb Mont Roger (small asphalt road). Stay on this small road until you reach the fork at the summit (elevation 112).

(7) Leave the GR® and turn right down to Fléchin.

(8) Shortly before reaching Fléchin, don't miss the upward path on the left (GR®). At the crossroads, go straight ahead for 1km.

(9) At the antenna, turn left towards Ferme de la Carnoye (path sometimes damaged). Before reaching the farm, turn right onto the tarmac and 100m further on, turn left.

(10) In the right-hand bend, leave the tarmac to take a path leading down to Fléchinelle (still GR®).
Reach the D159, follow it to the right and immediately turn left. Cross the Surgeon, and turn right on a good path that takes you up to Enquin-les-Mines.

(11) Shortly before the D158, at a hiking pole, turn left. Shortly afterwards, turn right through the beautiful new buildings of Enquin, to reach the car park.(S/E

I couldn't agree more!
The routes of the GR and GRP in this area are not very attractive (but they are small roads nonetheless).

Note that in the past (last century!), the GR used to cross the Bois des Avesnes (trace visible on the IGN map).
Unfortunately, in our beautiful country, woodland owners like to enclose their woods behind barbed wire.
Perhaps to hide the traps they set from view?
I recently freed (in a corner where I shouldn't have been) a bird of prey caught in one of these pieces of crap!

Yesterday I hiked in Belgium on the Monts de Flandre, where you can cross a lot of small woods on well-maintained paths!

Different country, different customs!

I was a little disappointed at the end of this walk, which had a fine start and a fine finish: small, varied paths with a good gradient.
But between Cuhem and the ferme de la Carnoy, there was a lot of tarmac!

It's a beautiful, undulating route with some fine examples of the Lys region's architectural heritage!

I'm guessing the wrong path is between points 4 and 5. Unfortunately, it happens all the time and yet it's on the GR!

The only problem we encountered with this walk was that at one point we had to take a path (used by quad bikes) and this path had not been cleared of undergrowth and was therefore full of brambles.
Otherwise, the route is nice and we saw some beautiful views.

The landscapes and villages are very pretty. Some parts of the path are indeed damaged, but I did the walk in dry weather. I alternated walking and running, which explains the duration. There are quite a few changes in altitude, which spices up the route and gives some very pleasant views.

Hello everyone.
We tried this circuit on 9 August 2014.
Problem after 1.3 km:
in the rue du Calvaire, at the three-way junction, we turned right hoping to reach the D77.
Unfortunately, this narrow path (which at first glance looked like a nice place to walk) quickly turned into an obstacle course, with a profusion of nettles and, above all, brambles clinging stubbornly to our clothes. Not having thought to bring pruning shears, we decided to turn back after 100 metres.
Back at the three-way junction, we turned left this time towards the Hermitage woods, hoping to find a passageway to the D77. Unfortunately, once we entered the wood, the 2 exits we found were blocked, and in fact they only led to pastures surrounded by barbed wire.
So we went back to the entrance to the wood and tried to go round it to the right, but we were soon blocked by bushy hedges and barbed wire.
In short, by the time we finally got back to the three-way junction, we'd covered 4.8km (a diversion of 3.5km).
We then decided to return to the entrance to rue du Calvaire, in order to rejoin the D77 on the tarmac, which meant yet another small diversions.
Given the time lost and the number of kilometres already covered, we finally abandoned the planned route and improvised a short loop (alas, most of it tarmac!) to return to the car park after 10.8 km.

Hello,
Could someone tell me if there are any streams other than the Surgeon at Fléchinelle? Thank you
