Route des Batailles in Thérouanne

The starting point is at the following address: 4, Chemin de Bomy, Thérouanne. Parking spaces available.

(S/E) From the starting sign, head up the hill. At the junction, carry straight on to reach the hamlet of Les Cornailles.

(1) At the fork in the road, turn left and carry on straight ahead until you reach the sign explaining the three battles that took place at Enguinegatte.

(2) Turn left and head up the hill, passing several junctions. Once at the top, turn right, ignore a path on the left and walk past the pumping station. Turn left, reach the main road and cross it at the pedestrian crossing. Then turn left until you reach the nearby crossroads (small car park).

(3) Turn right onto Rue Longue and continue to the junction.

(4) Turn left and follow the path downhill to reach the departmental road at the end of Chemin du Milieu, at No. 41.

(5) Turn left. At the junction, go straight on, and do the same at the Stop sign.

(6) After the bank and in front of the veterinary clinic, turn left onto Rue de Nielles to return to the starting point (S/E).

Before the checkpoint (2), there is a picnic table with a canopy along the route.

The Maison de l’Archéologie in Thérouanne is open to the public:
- from May to October, Wednesday to Friday from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 13.30 to 17.00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 13.30 to 17.00. Open on Tuesdays to groups (by booking only).
- from November to April, Wednesday to Friday from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Open on Tuesdays and on Wednesday to Friday mornings for groups (by booking only).

(2) Along the route, a sign explains the three battles that took place at Enguinegatte during the siege of Thérouanne:
- the Battle of Les Démanchés on 7 August 1479,
- the Battle of Les Eperons on 16 August 1513,
- the Battle of Les Pourettes on 6 July 1537.

In Thérouanne: visit the Maison de l’Archéologie, which is dedicated to the history of this town and the archaeological site.

The archaeological site (44, rue Saint-Jean) is open from April to October, every day from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm; admission is free. The site includes part of Thérouanne Cathedral, which was completely destroyed in 1553.
