The Tour du Prarial

A pleasant circular route through the forest along the watershed. You first follow the Durance, which is then just a small stream and which will eventually flow into the Rhône and then the Mediterranean. The circular route ends along the Doire, another small stream that is a tributary of the Po, which in turn flows into the Adriatic Sea.

Description of the walk

(S/E) The route starts just by the bridge near the ice rink. Turn right on the descent, following the golf course to the tennis courts just before the swimming pool.

(1) Turn left towards the south to reach the right bank of the Durance. Leave the Téleski Durance behind quickly by following the sign for the Tour du Prarial
After crossing the stream for the first time, head steeply uphill to join the track at the top of the adventure park. Watch out for mountain bikes – they have their own track.
Continue climbing alongside the Durance, sometimes on the right bank, sometimes on the left, until you reach the track.

(2) After following the track for about 300 metres, just past the signposts, cross the stream over a large tree trunk.
From there, begin the descent. The path heads straight north on a very gentle slope until it reaches a three-way junction.

(3) You’ll reach the Bois du Prarial on the watershed. Turn right towards the north-east and descend via the Vallon track.

(4) At the Brousset chairlift, you’ll come to the Doire stream, whose waters eventually flow into the Adriatic Sea not far from Venice. Continue along the Vallon track. The track joins the dirt track leading to the Moulin Vieux.

(5) Turn left to head back towards the resort.

(6) At the junction with the Peychier trail, above the water reservoirs, turn left again and head back to the car park (S/E).

For poetry lovers, the local touch:

‘Farewell, my sister the Durance,
For we part on this hill:
You’ll sweep through Provence
And I shall bring fertility to Piedmont’

Pleasant hike with beautiful views. However, the route is heavily impacted by ski slopes and mountain bike trails.

The route is rather uneven in terms of interest: the first section through town along the road is rather unpleasant, but the climb through woodland alongside a small stream is much nicer. The signposting is inadequate; without the directions from Visorando, we certainly wouldn’t have found our way back. Otherwise, it’s a fairly easy walk, suitable for families with children. Worth doing once to explore the area...
