From Briançon, take the N94 towards Montgenèvre.
Drive through the village, then at the Obelisk roundabout, head towards the town centre and park in one of the car parks located after the town hall. Parking is generally free during the summer.
(S/E) From the car park, take the boardwalk towards Italy for 300m along the car parks. Turn right towards the south-east onto the small tarmac road leading to the golf course and Lac du Peychier.
(1) At the “Lac du Peychier” sign, take the path on the right towards Bois du Prarial and Collet Vert.
This path runs along a balcony above the golf course and crosses the Bois de Prarial.
(2) After passing the second “Bois du Prarial” sign and at the fork, take the path on the left which descends towards the Doire torrent, a river which flows into the Adriatic Sea via the River Po.
(3) At the end of the lane, take a small path on the left.
Cross the Doire and then head south-east to join the Allée du Collet Vert.
(4) Follow the path upwards to the right.
The path climbs up the southern then south-eastern slope, following the course of the Doire.
(5) At the “Sous la Plane” sign, take the path on the left towards the Cime de la Plane and small pass.
The path leaves the forest entirely, climbs through the mountain pastures and the summit comes into view on the left.
(6) At a cairn, leave the path leading to Collet Vert and take the track on the left.
This narrow mountain path climbs north-east then east before reaching, after a steep ascent, the Collet Guignard or Petit Collet.
(7) Head up the Crête de Petit Collet on the left for a distance of about 350m.
(8) At the cairn, leave the path and turn right towards the north onto the summit path of Mont de la Plane.
(9) After enjoying the view, head back down the same route to the car park (S/E).
