Incourt (Belgique) walks

This short walk through the Brabant countryside, including a visit to the Champt’aine Nature Reserve, offers a chance to get some fresh air and recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. Thelandscapes vary greatly depending on the season.

A sense of solitude prevails in these vast rural expanses.Few roads, few tracks, plenty of country lanes – some with grass that isn’t too short, and the traditional cobblestones of Walloon Brabant – will take you through the countryside to discover farms with monumental porches.The morning mist or the afternoon sun lend markedly different atmospheres to these majestic buildings and to the countryside, which is devoted to growing vegetables and cereals, as well as to livestock farming and the production of apples and pears.

Enjoy the fresh air in the rolling countryside south of Jodoigne.Fields and crops await you.Things to see along the route: a few chapels, Dongelberg Castle (a kind of local coliseum that has suffered the ravages of time), a cross commemorating a former French military cemetery, in the distance the twisted bell tower of the Chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Marché on the Grand-Place in Jodoigne, the pretty village of Jauchelette.

The Fort des Voiles, also known as Ferme Rose for obvious reasons, was successively used as a glass furnace, a flour mill and a fish farm (trout).The name Fort des Voiles is thought to come from a distortion of "for à voires", which in Walloon means "glass furnace".In the 17th century, the glass industry required a lot of wood, which would explain its geographical location.The fish farm was created a little further down, along the Ruisseau du Glabais stream, and operated from 1950 until around 2000, when the presence of beavers and a sewage treatment plant, located upstream of the stream and inadequately protected against flooding, forced the owners to cease operations for health reasons.The current buildings date from the 1920s.

A point of transition. Moving from the tranquillity of the countryside to the bustling life of a university town, from buildings that are sometimes very old to the modernity of a city built in the20th century. From quiet country lanes with little traffic to the approach to one of the region’s busiest motorways, and then on to the pedestrianised centre of the university campus – some will miss the former, whilst others will revel in the atmosphere of the new town.

Easy walk through fields and Linseau woods.

A short 8 km circular walk starting from the Grez-Doiceau Post Office. This walk takes you along the cycle path, footpaths, fields and woods. You will pass through a few streets in Grez-Doiceau, but the route is mostly sheltered from traffic, except for a straight stretch towards Biez. A simple yet varied route ideal for daily walks starting from Grez.

A very beautiful walk. Starting near the Nodebais pond. Passing by a few houses decorated by local artists (ceramics on the facades) then along paths through the countryside. There are few roads on this walk, mainly country lanes.

A bucolic walk steeped in history, following in the footsteps of Marlborough.

The villages of Bossut and Gottechain were merged in 1811 to form the municipality of Bossut-Gottechain. The 1977 municipal reform incorporated both into the entity of Grez-Doiceau.With this little page of Belgian history turned, the walk starts from the square in Bossut and takes you on a route that is more rural in Wallonia and more wooded in Flanders (Meerdaalbos), another Belgian story as the route straddles the two neighbouring provinces of Brabant.

Chaumont-Gistoux, like many places in Walloon Brabant, is full of small paths and trails connecting the villages, hamlets and neighbourhoods of the area. This is one of the highlights of the walk.

Between Walloon Brabant and the Meerdael Forest, this walk combines nature, history and legends. The Nethen, a discreet river, winds its way between meadows and woods before joining the Dyle. Its banks are home to trout, kingfishers and dragonflies.In the Meerdael Forest and at Les 12 Bonniers, oak and beech trees dominate a world of mosses, mushrooms and discreet animals. The Ferme de la Houlotte recalls the rural life of yesteryear, while the tawny owl watches over the grounds.The medieval mound of Nethen and the castle of Florival bear witness to the valley's feudal past. Further on, the Nethen sandpit and the Grande Marbaise reveal an ancient seascape, now a refuge for rare flora and sand lizards. At Florival and the Pécrot pond, reeds and orchids create a peaceful scene. Between rivers, forests and memories of times gone by, Nethen invites you to explore and contemplate.

A countryside walk with not too much elevation gain, ideal for stretching your legs in any season, but which can also be done in winter.You’re unlikely to come across many people, apart from a few rabbits hopping about (in the distance) in the middle of the fields: it’s much easier to spot them on the snow than when they blend into the ground or hide amongst the vegetation.

Starting from the car park at Sauvenière Church, come and discover some beautiful farms in the Gembloux countryside. Quiet paths and roads. Open countryside. Depending on the season, you will see fields of potatoes, rapeseed, beetroot, maize and cereals. On this route, you will also be walking across the battlefield of the only victory won by French tanks at the start of the Second World War.

An easy walk through woods and along the Meerdaal Forest and meadows with beautiful views of the Nethen valley.

A rural hike in Walloon Brabant, discovering a few villages crossed by the Orne and its tributaries.

As indicated in the title, this walk explores the agricultural countryside of the plain north-east of Gembloux towards Sauvenière, the hamlet of Baudecet and Ernage. The highlight is probably the Escaille Nature Reserve, with its pond, birdwatching posts, old ruined mill and heritage orchard.

The Heverleebos is mainly planted with majestic beech and pine trees and criss-crossed by magnificent avenues. A few winding paths break up the sometimes overly linear appearance of this forest area.

This walk is located in the south and in the most wooded part of Gembloux. Beautiful scenery.

Without entering them, discover five villages in the Gembloux area. This well-maintained route of around 15 km gives pride of place to paths and trails. In addition, 20% of the route is along roads with often flat and passable verges. In spring, the undergrowth is ablaze with flowers. On the hills, take a look around you: the landscapes will surprise you.

This short walk in the Bois Grand-Père takes you on a discovery of the hilly part of the Orneau valley to the south-west of the Grand-Manil district. There are no particular difficulties, except for a little mud on the path in the woods and between the Ferme de Bedauwe and the Orneau.The perfect family walk, alternating between trails, paved paths, countryside and forest.
