Departure from the Notre-Dame-Alerne Church in Chastre.
(S) Walk past the church on the left and go up the small street. At the intersection, take Rue de la Poste opposite towards the municipal school. At the end of the street, follow the path that turns right after the school.
(1) Take Rue de la Chapelle to the left and then turn right at the fork (trident) 200 metres further on.
The path leads into the countryside: a little further on, on the right, pass an industrial chicken farm.
There is a beautiful view on the left over the Houssière valley, at a place called Champ du Colombier, as you arrive in the village of Hévillers. Leave Rue du Colombier and the Hévillers cemetery on your left and continue right along Rue de la Pierrère. At the T-junction, go down Rue de Blanmont to the left. See the Château d'Hévillers on the left and a little further on the right, the Chapelle Saint-Antoine. Turn left into Rue des Tilleuls and pass to the left of the church.
(2) At the Y-junction, take Rue de la Houssière on the right. Opposite the former Hévillers village school, there is a beautiful lime tree and, a little further down, a fountain decorated with flowers called Source Basse (water not drinkable).
Follow Rue du Chenoy to the left: there are a few benches in the small park on the left. Go down Rue du Chenoy, cross the bridge over the Houssière and continue straight ahead. Halfway up the hill, the landscape opens up onto fields. Beautiful view behind you on the left.
(3) At the crossroads, straight ahead, is the Château du Chenoy, whose silhouette can be seen through the tall trees of the 40-hectare park. Turn right into Rue Vital Casse. About 150 metres further on, admire the majestic avenue of lime trees on the left that leads to the château, on the farm side.
(4) Turn right onto the farm track that descends through the fields towards a copse housing an underground water collection station on the site of the Ornoy springs. At the T-junction, follow Rue de Nivelles to the right and continue up to the edge of the woods.
(5) Leave Rue du Riquau going down to the left and Rue du Culot going off to the right towards Hévillers to continue straight on along the street that descends through the woods. At the edge of the woods, admire the Château de Bierbais on your left and its ancient keep dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. There is also a beautiful view of the ponds on the right. Turn left onto Rue des Tilleuls at the T-junction after the small bridge over the Houssière.
(6) Take the path on the right just after the Café des Pêcheurs and the bridge over the Orne. Follow Rue de Nil to the right.
(7) Turn left onto the communal path just before the bridge over the Orne. Walk up the right bank of the Orne.
Go through the tunnel with an arch for pedestrians and another for the stream. Be careful, it is very dark but the ground is flat and obstacle-free.
(8) Cross the next bridge over the Orne. Go around the chapel and continue along Rue de Nil, which climbs to the right. Go through the tunnel under the railway line and take the path that climbs to the left. After the bend, the path runs alongside a field and becomes a grassy track. Turn left, cross the railway line (Brussels-Luxembourg) on the bridge and turn right. Take the road on the left and walk alongside the Domaine Al Poudre, a former mill on the Orne river that has been converted into a venue for seminars and banquets.
(9) At the end of the estate's grounds, continue straight ahead and take the path on the right, running alongside the houses. The path soon becomes Sentier de la Fesse. Walk alongside the gardens and take Rue de l'Eglise on the left.
(10) Turn right onto the footpath between properties numbered 6 and 8 on Rue de Nil. Cross the public sports field located on Place de la Féchère (a few benches) and continue along the path opposite. It curves to the right.
(11) Walk straight ahead alongside the buildings, ignoring a path on the left that leads into the countryside. At the T-junction, take Rue des Combattants to the right, then Rue de l'Église to the left. Walk past the church and a few benches. Blanmont Castle is just opposite. Turn left into Rue du Château and walk along the wall.
(12) At the corner of the castle wall, turn right onto Sentier du Marais. It crosses the Orne river and climbs through fields towards the railway line.
(13) At the old Moulin de Godeupont mill, take Rue de la Fontaine on the right, pass under the railway bridge and continue along Sentier du Bois on the left. Immediately afterwards, it runs alongside the meandering Orne river and then moves away from it.
(14) Before reaching the houses, turn left onto the communal path called Drève des Prisonniers de Guerre. It crosses the Orne again and heads straight for the old Ferme Rose or Ferme de Perbais, dating from the end of the 16th century, which is listed and has recently been restored to house the Chastre community centre. Turn onto the right-hand branch of Square de l'Espignan. Cross Avenue du Castillon and take Rue de la Drève, which leads back to the starting point via a magnificent path lined with lime trees. The old cemetery behind the Notre-Dame-Alerne church is worth a look.
