Huveaune (fleuve) walks

The Huveaune river has its source in the Sainte-Beaume massif at the Castelette cave. It is actually several resurgent and petrifying springs.

If you would like to discover a pretty spring in the South of France, I recommend a circular route starting from the Plateau, passing by the Oratoire de Miette, the Tumulus des Béguines and the Chemin de Rois. You will discover the spring and its magnificent colours and the Castelette cave on the way back.

A loop passing through the Gorges de l'Huveaune to its source, with some beautiful views across the hills to Sainte-Baume and Sainte-Victoire. Please note that from 6 November 2023 to 22 December 2023, access to the source of the Huveaune is prohibited. ONF construction work in progress.

There is a long, steep descent, but the views are magnificent on both the Sainte-Baume and Sainte-Victoire sides. The forest surrounding the Gorges de l'Huveaune is cool and dense, and the yellow waterfalls in the riverbed are surprising. This is a short excursion into the Sainte-Baume forest. a varied and challenging walk.

This is a family hike that allows you to visit the Huveaune springs via a rather unusual route starting from the Hôtellerie de la Sainte-Baume.

An easy walk on pretty paths and wide tracks facing the cliffs of Sainte-Baume. 8/11/2023: Hike modified due to an obstruction onthe GR® between (5) and (7).

This is an easy hike that takes you to the sources of the Huveaune river, then along a return path with beautiful views of Sainte-Baume. It is best not to do this hike in summer if you want to see the pools full.

A circular route, apart from its length, which takes you up the Huveaune from Saint-Zacharie to the magnificent spring basins, returning via the Défens and Orgnon forests.

This walk starts in Auriol and climbs up to the Grotte des Infernets before descending to the Glacière des Encanaux. Most of the walk takes place through pine forests, often alongside a river and accompanied by birdsong.

A lovely walk along the Huveaune in Roquevaire. You’ll pass a farm (calves, goats, poultry, horses, etc.) and, further on, a very pretty waterfall. This short walk is accessible via bus route 8 of the metropolitan bus network.

A walk through the forest for most of the route, which is particularly enjoyable on these summer days, taking in the Source des Nayes and the Ruisseau de Peyruis – which is unfortunately dry at the moment – with the return route along the banks of the Huveaune.

This walk allows you to explore the varied landscapes of the village of Auriol, with its narrow streets, along the Huveaune and in the surrounding area, and to enjoy panoramic views, particularly from the Chapel of Sainte-Croix.

A varied landscape and magnificent views characterise this challenging hike to the Sources de l’Huveaune. The route passes via the Chemin des Rois (or Roys) and its wayside shrines, the ruins of Vieux Nans and Sainte-Croix Hill. After reaching the Huveaune – which you’ll cross at a ford, where you’ll need to take off your shoes – the climb up alongside the river to the springs is simply spectacular. Finally, after visiting the Castelette cave, the return route over the ridges – the steepest and most challenging part of the route – takes you back to the Hôtellerie de la Sainte-Baume and the starting point. This route is best undertaken at the end of winter or after heavy rain to make the most of the beautiful scenery.

A lovely walk starting from La Penne-sur-Huveaune that takes you through pine forests to the summit of La Candolle. An easy path winds its way along the cliff face, offering magnificent views of Sainte-Baume, the Huveaune valley, Garlaban and the Bay of Marseille. The descent takes you back down to La Pérussonne and Le Charrel. The free bus on Line 6, which connects with the free tram, takes you back to the starting point, and the tram takes you back to the city centre. You are in the Calanques National Park, which is subject to specific regulations. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in a fine of up to €1,500.

This is a variation on one of my previous hikes, From Saint-Zacharie to La Mouère, which takes a different path to a lovely viewpoint above Saint-Zacharie. In hot weather, walking under the trees for most of the route is very pleasant.

This is an unpretentious hike that allows you to discover the beautiful autumn landscapes near this peak overlooking Saint-Zacharie. Unfortunately, we were unable to climb this hill because part of the path is private and has been closed off. The GR®9A is completely inaccessible from the points (2) and (3) (perhaps the route will be modified at a later date).
