Description of the walk

Parking available at the Tourist Office in Saint-Nicolas des Eaux

(S/E) Retrace your steps and cross the D1, leaving the road bridge on your right.
Take the towpath on the left bank, which follows the meander of the Blavet to the Casternec site.
Walk along the towpath, noting the beautiful old trees (oaks, plane trees, beeches) that line the path. Pass the marshy area in the bend on your right (an area frequented by herons).

(1) You will reach the first lock, La Couarde.
Continue on and, on the cliff on your left, notice the iron bird sculptures attached to the rock.

(2) Pass under the Pontivy–Auray railway bridge, which is still in use for a few freight trains.

(3) You will soon arrive opposite the site of the Saint-Gildas chapel-hermitage on the opposite bank (unobstructed view of the site).

(4) Pass the second lock, Gamblen, and note a break in the vegetation on the opposite bank: crops give way to wooded areas. Looking back, you can see the bell tower of Bieuzy-les-Eaux.

(5) You will reach an area where you can see private ponds on the left. Continue past the lodges and caravan rentals at Lost ar Lann and you will reach the last and largest lock, Moulin Neuf, which is the end of the outward journey.

(6) Retrace your steps and turn right at the first road (barrier) and continue towards the railway line. Turn left onto the road that runs alongside the railway line.

(7) Leave the road leading to the Lost er Lann lodges on your left and continue straight ahead along a path until you reach a road.

(8) Turn left onto the towpath (barrier).

(5) Turn right and retrace your steps back to the car park near the Tourist Office (S/E).

The route can be completed in ordinary trainers.
This hike is classified as moderate due to its length.

Extended walk to the lock after Moulin-Neuf, but not particularly interesting.
Very easy despite the length.
There are plenty of picnic spots with tables at each lock and benches everywhere, even on the pontoons near the locks.

Hello
Many thanks for this lovely little hike.
It was superb, and we had sunshine too.
On the way back, we crossed the Blavet at the Gamblen lock to get to the right bank.
This allowed us to reach the Chapelle Saint-Gildas, which is extraordinary but unfortunately closed, which we understand given the thefts in Breton chapels.
Then we went back up the little path (not recommended for people who have difficulty walking on steep terrain).
Then we descended towards Saint Nicolas, passing by the observatory and the Chapel of the Trinity.

Thank you for your opinion and your very valid comment.
The Tourist Office is indeed located in Saint-Nicolas des Eaux, which is part of the municipality of Pluméliau.
That is why the software indicates the municipality of Plumeliau.
I hadn't realised this and I will clarify it.
Kind regards

Hello,
It should be noted that the Tourist Office is located in St-Nicolas des Eaux and not in Pluméliau...
Best regards
Laurent
