Parking on the right after the Saint-Nicolas des Eaux Tourist Office.
(S/E) At the end of the car park, take the grassy path that climbs up to the right in a hairpin bend and joins Rue des Martyrs de la Résistance. Follow this street to the left and turn left into Rue des École. Make a short return trip to the fountain on the left.
(1) Continue left along Rue des Écoles and descend left along the Chapelle Saint-Nicolas via Allée des Camélias, noting the beautiful stone houses. Turn right into Passage de la Duchesse Anne (stairs) and turn left to reach the banks of the Blavet. Follow the river on your right, pass the modern iron statue in homage to the Venus of Quinipily, which has had a chequered history, and turn right into the first street going uphill, Rue de la Libération.
(2) At the first crossroads (chapel on your right), turn left into Rue du Cosquer. Follow this small road (signposted Le Guern) lined with trees on your left. Further on, it enters a wood.
(3) At the place called Le Guern (signposted "écluse"), turn right to begin a beautiful climb.
(4) At a house, turn left onto a farm track. Follow this track, which turns at a right angle and leads to a small road.
(5) At the road, turn left and follow it until it joins the D1. Continue on this busier road. When it turns right, continue straight ahead through the no entry sign towards the imposing 16th-century Chapelle Saint-Nicodème, dominated by its 46-metre-high bell tower (well worth a visit if open). It is attached to the 18th-century chaplain's house and there are four fountains within the grounds, including a majestic triple fountain.
PR®® Yellow signposts (few)
(6) At the west gable of the chapel (picnic table), take a grassy path that descends into the woods. Cross a small footbridge over a small stream. Continue downhill to the River Blavet.
(7) Turn left and follow the towpath (signpost). Pass the Guern lock (a beautiful stone house), then go under the three-arched bridge that allows the railway line to cross the river. This single-track line is used by freight trains between Pontivy and Auray.
(8) Go up to the left to join this railway line, cross the bridge and go down to the left via a wooden staircase with a rustic railing. Follow the shaded path along the right bank of the river. You will come to a road which you follow to the left and, at a signpost, take the path under the trees as close to the river as possible. You will reach a grassy esplanade with various sculptures and picnic tables. Continue along the small road.
(9) Cross the road bridge over the Blavet and turn left into Allée des Estivants to return to the starting point (S/E).
