From Carpentras, take the D4 towards Venasque, then after Venasque take the D177 towards Gordes and park in the car park at Sénanque Abbey.
From Gordes, take the D177 towards Sénanque Abbey and park in the abbey car park.
(S/E) Continue along the road to the abbey, then at the bend, continue left for 150 metres to join the GR® (which you will follow) which crosses the road and climbs to the right. This pretty path climbs, offering beautiful views of the Gorges de la Sénancole and the abbey.
(1) At the D177 road, walk 50 metres and turn left onto a narrow path marked irregularly with small blue circles (just before you see the signpost on the right-hand side of the road). This very pleasant, somewhat wild and little-used path varies between ridge (beautiful views of the abbey on the west side) and deciduous undergrowth offering beautiful views of Mont Ventoux in the distance to the north.
(2) At the intersection with a wider track coming from the right, follow it to the left (marked with yellow lines) through a pine forest to the next intersection, where you turn left, still following the yellow markings. You will soon arrive at an area known as "pelouses" (see explanatory sign on site).
(3) Descend gently alongside flat rock slabs to the valley, then after a bend, climb gradually back up to the road and the Trois Termes pass.
(4) Turn left onto the Pouraque track for about 1.3 km, seeing Mont Ventoux on your right through a few cedar trees, then at altitude 608, turn left (no more markings) and you will see a forest barrier leading to a hunters' hut in a pretty forest.
(5) Continue along the track slightly to the left at the hut before reaching the GR® trail, which you will follow to the left along a beautiful narrow path.
(6) The descent is gentle, gradual and very beautiful in the Vallon de Châteauneuf. At an intersection, continue left on the GR® until you reach the road, which you will cross.
(7) Continue on a GR® trail which, after a bend, leads to the entrance of the small abbey road that joins the car park at the start (S/E).
