Digne-les-Bains walks
The three chapels and the Rocher de Neuf-Heures in Digne-les-Bains
Two hills dominate the Bourg district of Digne-les-Bains. Here is a route that takes you to both in the same day. For those staying in Digne, it is nice to start directly from the town.
The summit of Andran from Digne-les-Bains
A very pleasant walk. Up to (3), there are numerous views of Digne and its surroundings. At the top of the Andran (6), there is a beautiful 360° panorama. On the way back, there is a very beautiful passage before Courbons.
The summit of Andran via the village of Courbons
A very beautiful hike with a trail that gradually climbs, offering beautiful views of the Bléone River, which flows through Digne-les-Bains. The fortified village of Courbons proudly displays its medieval heritage. A break at the summit of Andran (altitude 1,218 m) is a must, as it offers an exceptional 360° view.
Circular from Courbons via the Riou ravine and the Baisse des Chatières
A short hike along little-used paths, evidence of the decline in agriculture. Sunny slopes and panoramic views that are well worth the trip!
The Saint-Pancrace Chapel in Digne
An easy, often shaded walk for the whole family. Superb view of Digne and its thermal baths from the belvedere.
Secondary summit of Cousson via Entrages
Although not very high, the Cousson dominates the region because it is an isolated peak. This gentle walk will take you to the original St-Michel Chapel on its perch, then to the southern summit with its stunning view.
This walk offers excellent value for money in terms of the view/difficulty of the climb! Ideal for families.
Allow 3 to 3½ hours for the walk, no more. There are no surprises.
Towards Cousson from Entrages
A pleasant hike. Departure from the pretty village of Entrages. The chapel on its spur is a must-see. At the summit of Cousson, there is a beautiful 360° panorama.
Tour of Feston and its ridge via the Charbonnières trails
This modified hike takes you around the entire Feston and its ridge, with some off-trail sections. It allows you to discover the magnificent panorama offered by the entire Barre des Dourbes. The lunch break in front of such a sumptuous panorama is just begging to be extended. An alternative shuttle service allows you to make a detour to the ruins of the Château de la Reine Jeanne and the Chapelle Saint-Pons.
GPS and/or map reading skills are highly recommended.
Barre des Dourbes via the Pas de Labaud and Pas de la Faye
A magnificent ridge trail with superb views over the Bléone valley and Digne-les-Bains, as well as the Asse valley. Its long limestone cliff stretches from south to north for nearly seventeen kilometres, with the Pic de Couard (1,988 metres) at its northern end.
The Barre des Dourbes ridge
Long north-south oriented ridge, the Barre des Dourbes ridge separates the basin of Digne-les-Bains from the Barrême syncline.
Rising in stages over twenty kilometres, culminating Pic de Couar some 1988 m above sea level.
Couard and Cucuyon peaks and Col de la Cine
Variation (extension) of the route leading to the peaks of Couard and Cucuyon, but allowing you to walk along a magnificent ridge line and make a circular route. Many thanks to the hiker I met on the descent from the summit of Couard who made this brilliant suggestion.
Pic de Couard via Archail
A very beautiful hike above Archail. Superb views throughout the walk and at the summit. A very pleasant setting.
Ichthyosaur Geological Site
This easy hike takes you to a fossil of an ichthyosaur, a large marine reptile measuring over 4 m and dating back 183 million years. The trail runs along a fairly cool ravine before climbing up a slope covered with downy oak and beech trees to the Col du Jas. The archaeological site is located 200 m after the pass.
The peaks of Couard and Cucuyon via Pas d'Archail
Hike in the northern part of the Coupe mountain, east of Digne-les-Bains, between the Bléone and Issole valleys. After a beautiful climb through the forest, you will reach two peaks approaching 2,000 metres, offering superb panoramic views. The hike starts in Archail, a small village 13 km from Digne-les-Bains, which can be reached by a road, already magnificent, that runs alongside the Bouinenc torrent.
Col de l'Escuichière
A short circular walk takes you to the art shelter at the Col de l' Escuichière from the Bléone valley.
The summit above the pass offers impressive views of the Bès valley.
The Black Earth of Draix
An easy loop that starts on a very small, quiet paved road in a wild valley. It then follows a series of paths and trails, ending with a short stretch on a very small road. There are points of interest along the route, with magnificent views of the peaks.
