Park on the D20 coming from Digne-Les-Bains, less than 1 km after the Entrages road junction. You can park near the old ONF building by the roadside.
(S/E) Look for the Sentier des Charbonnières on the right bank of Mardaric; it is the one furthest to the left. There are traces of two-wheeled traffic, so do not go down into the valley and do not take the old path marked by a wooden sign: Les Dourbes-Villaron, the old Tour du Feston route.
Take this superb uphill trail. Follow a few mini hairpin bends to reach a stream.
(1) Cross it and continue climbing along the Feston valley, discovering old charcoal kiln sites. You will reach an open hillock, where you will cross the Thermes-Dourbes-Feston route marked in yellow. Take the path on the right that climbs into the forest. You will reach a crossroads.
(2) Leave the path on the right that climbs to the Crête du Feston and take the path on the left. Continue climbing, then begin a short descent that leads to a crossroads before the Les Couasses sign. This crossroads is located just after crossing the Ravin des Trappes.
(3) Be careful, as this is where the off-trail section begins: in the bend in the path, between the last pine trees in the forest, find an old path that is a little overgrown at the start and take it in the bend between the pine trees. You will come out onto old cultivated land. Keep heading south-west, progressing through small clearings and open spaces until you reach a ridge line.
(4) Turn right and begin climbing the ridge line, where the path becomes clear. Reach the summit of Feston.
(5) Continue along the ridge and rejoin the route at the Chemin du Feston crossroads you passed earlier.
(2) Take the same route back to the ONF building car park (S/E).
