Congy walks

This is a route rich in discoveries: the castles of Congy and Étoges, the Champagne vineyards, and above all the magnificent menhir of the Étang de Chènevry. Vineyards, woods and crops with magnificent views of the nearby marshes of Saint Gond. No technical difficulties except for a little mud in wet weather.

Here’s a short walk that will allow you to see plenty of sights: the Castles of Baye and Congy, and the little menhir at Villevenard. The route partly follows the route of the old Reims Suburban Railway (CBR). A very shaded route through magnificent woods. Best avoided in very wet weather.

There is no return to the starting point. Leave your cars at Avenay-Val-d'Or station and return by TER train from Rilly-la-Montagne. Although you are following the Camino de Santiago, it is wonderfully peaceful. During the week, apart from one or two foresters, you will only encounter deer.

It passes through many woods, vineyards and pastures. It has little elevation gain and presents no difficulties, except for muddy conditions in wet weather. You will find it very peaceful. Avoid on hunting days.
