Description of the walk

The route starts at Lachy Town Hall (car park).

(S/E) Head down Route de Charleville (south). At the junction immediately ahead, veer left, cross Route de Mondement and follow Rue des Sources (D346). Cross the Grand Morin and turn left immediately onto Chemin Rouge. When the road bends to the right, carry on straight ahead along a path. Veer left to go round a football pitch.

(1) Turn left to cross the Grand Morin again. You’ll come out onto the Route de Mondement; follow it to the right.

(2) Take the first track on the right. Walk between the fields (south-east) and, at the end, turn left. Just before the D951, take a track on the right that runs parallel to the road.

(3) At the junction, take the D346 to the right. Pass two roads on the left, one of which is a private road. At the junction, turn left onto Rue Hutin. At the Fork in the road, turn right. At the crossroads, first turn left then right to continue along Rue Hutin.

(4) At the end, turn right onto Rue du Château. Then take the second left, Rue du Grand Moulin. Cross the Grand Morin again.

(5) At the end, turn left and, after about twenty metres (shrine), turn right onto Route des Essarts. Ignore the first path on the right.

(6) Follow the second track on the right. Then take the first track on the right. At the end, turn left. At the T-junction, turn right.

(7) Take the first path on the right. At the end of the path, continue along the tarmac for about 75 metres. At the junction, turn left onto Rue des Clos. At the end, turn right. At the next junction, rejoin Rue de Charleville and follow it to the right until you reach the town hall (S/E).

Take in the very pretty banks of the Grand Morin. The ‘official’ source of the Grand Morin is situated in a wooded area between points (1) and (2).

On the way, take a look at the wayside shrine (5).

Thank you for this route. It allowed me to discover a really lovely village.

For walkers: there’s a baguette vending machine (€1) opposite the community centre. Large car park.

Hello,

I did part of this route today, heading to Sézanne via the Way of St James. Lachy is a truly charming village, with lots of lovely, well-maintained old houses. I bumped into two Dutch people who were on their way to Santiago de Compostela.

We did this route in February; the same issue arose when crossing the Grand Morin – we retraced our steps and followed the advice given in the previous review.
This walk is best done in early spring as there is little shade.
The section through the fields isn’t particularly interesting; only the stretch along the Grand Morin is pleasant, with a wash house that’s well worth a detour.

Hello, and thank you for this additional information; as I did this route in the summer, I hadn’t noticed it.

A lovely walk in fine weather on this January Sunday, with hardly anyone about!
Be careful, though: at this time of year, it’s impossible to cross the Grand Morin after point number 1 (there’s a good 20 cm of water with a strong current). So, just before point 1, carry on straight ahead to rejoin the route a little further on (which will turn right).

The Sézanne tourist office, which stamps pilgrims’ credenciales, told me that in summer they see four or five pass through every day.
Between Reims and Montmort, where I’m out and about, I often come across them.
