Col du Carro (3149m) walks
Colle del Carro
The Refuge du Carro is already a lovely destination, but when you reach this first goal at the end of the morning and after seeing the panorama, there are various possibilities for a little extra treat. Why not the Col du Carro or Colle del Carro, as you can read on site?
The hundreds of cairns that dot the terrain are sure to catch your eye, as will the view of the Italian side.
From Bonneval to the Carro refuge
This first stage, starting from one of the most beautiful villages in France, is a gentle warm-up that culminates (for the more adventurous) at the Col du Carro (3,149 m), the border between France and Italy and a magnificent viewpoint in fine weather, offering views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers.
Walks near Col du Carro (3149m)
Rifugio Savoia - Eaux-Rousses
A balcony trail. Stage4 of the circular route in the Gran Paradiso National Park. Return to the Valsavarenche valley.
Carro Refuge - Lacs Blanc and Noir
A balcony route with beautiful views of the glaciers, passing by the small Lac du Pys and then the Refuge du Carro. Don't miss the Lacs Noir and Blanc, where you can recharge your batteries before descending to the traditional hamlet of L'Écot and then Bonneval-sur-Arc.
From the Fond des Fours Refuge to the Col de la Vanoise Refuge
A long stage for this third day with very varied landscapes and terrain. It’s a shame that the road section after the Refuge de la Femma can’t be avoided, as it’s rather uninteresting. You’ll have to wait until the Refuge d’Entre Deux Eaux to finally get back on a trail. The difficulty is mainly due to the distance, as the elevation gains aren’t too steep and the trails are in good condition.
Refuge de la Marmotte - Eaux Rousses
A short day as the next day takes you into the Gran Paradiso National Park, where camping is prohibited; I had to cut the stage short, otherwise it would have had to be extended unreasonably. The Hostellerie du Gran Paradis is the only place to stay overnight. The food is great, but be warned: at weekends there are often Italians, French people, etc. out mountain biking.
Bruil - Eaux Rousses
Another valley trek, the aim of today is Valsavarenche.
Eaux Rousse - Cognes
A long day lies ahead with the climb to the Col de Lauzon (3,299m). This is the highest point of the TDG. The descent from the pass is pure delight. It is possible to run downhill for 3–4 km to the Vittorio Sella Refuge. It is a large refuge with plenty of people. The descent to Valnontey is also long, but there are plenty of cafés to rest in.
The Col de la Leisse from the arrival point of the Aéroski cable car
A beautiful hike to admire the mountains around Tignes, with views as far as Mont Blanc. Lovely view of the Grande Motte glacier. Little elevation gain when taking the cable car.
Eaux Rousses - Refuge Vittorio Sella
From Valsavaranche to Val de Cogne in the middle of a herd of chamois.
Refuge de la Femma to Val d'Isère via the Col des Fours and Col de l'Iseran
Second day of this mini trek around Tignes-Val d'Isère, three legendary passes in the Vanoise with magnificent views of the neighbouring glaciers. A long day with a few technical sections, particularly at Tunnel 3000 (7).
Circular route in the Vanoise around Tignes / Val d'Isère
A challenging two-day mini-trek in the heart of the Vanoise National Park between the resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isère, with several possible routes. Ideal for seasonal workers or for those who want to experience a night in a mountain refuge.
