(S/E) Start from the car park at the entrance to the Saint-Evroult leisure centre. Take the D31 for about 300m (south-east).
(1) After passing a house, turn left onto a sunken track heading north-east. Follow it to a fork. Ignore the Chemin de la Grande Traverse which branches off to the right and continue straight on for 200m (the track curves slightly and heads almost due north). You will reach a very narrow tarmac road next to a house.
(2) Turn left and you will reach a junction after a few metres. Cross the D13 with care and follow a very narrow tarmac road straight ahead heading north-west until you reach the entrance to a property.
(3) You will then find a good path leading off to the right towards the north-east between hedges (sign at the entrance indicating that motor vehicles are prohibited). Follow this almost straight path for just under 2 km. You will reach a very small tarmac road.
(4) Do not turn onto the tarmac road, but turn sharply left to take a new, very good, straight path between hedges heading north-west. After about 2 km, you will reach a small tarmac road.
(5) Turn left (westwards), go for about 300 metres and reach the D31. This road has quite a bit of traffic (the road from Saint-Vroult to La Ferté-Fresnel). Cross it immediately and take this road to the right for a good hundred metres. You will then find a path that descends towards the valley floor to the left (due west). Take this path. You will reach a stream (the Charentonne). Cross it either by wading through the water (it is quite wide) or by using a ‘bridge’ made of a concrete post laid horizontally (a chance to test your balance…). Follow the path uphill until you reach a house.
(6) Just past the house, find a good stony path heading south and follow it (Chemin de l’Épine). Join the Route de Boquencé, which you take to the left (southbound). Follow this road to the D13 in the village of Saint-Evroult. Turn left, pass in front of the Étang des Saints-Pères and return to the starting car park (S/E).
However, avoid doing this route after heavy thunderstorms, as we had a few days earlier; some sections are slippery and very muddy.
