A varied walk, starting with unobstructed views over the fields, followed by a lovely stretch through the forest along the route of the old railway line. The section on tarmac is quite short and not very busy. The ponds are hidden by tall trees. I completed the walk in 2½ hours at a brisk pace without coming across any other walkers. I then spent 30 minutes exploring the abbey gardens, which feature some interesting information boards. I parked in the tourist office car park, which was empty when I set off at 8 am but full by the time I returned. A lovely morning.
