The Étang des Panses

The Étang des Panses lake can be seen along a path where it is not uncommon to encounter forest animals. After the forest, you will discover Percheron fruit trees at the Miermaigne conservation orchard; in mid-November, you can take part in the Apple Festival.

(6) Leave the pond on your right and continue straight ahead.

(7) At the crossroads, turn sharply left. Pass in front of the forest house and continue straight ahead.

(11) Cross the D368.11 and go down the sunken lane. At the next crossroads, turn right and follow the small road.

(12) At the junction with the D5, turn right towards Beaumont-les-Autels. Cross the D955 (take care) and take the path opposite, which is closed to motor vehicles.

A very pleasant hike on a very cold and sunny day (4 January 2026). The advantage was that the many muddy trails were frozen!
The landscapes were varied, so there was no risk of getting bored with a monotonous hike.
The indicated duration (3 hours 50 minutes) is accurate for a "normal" pace.
Two comments:
1/ I couldn't find the path leading from point 5 to point 6. It's better to take the path that branches off to the right 150 metres before point 5 (despite the yellow sign warning of falling trees and/or branches!).
I still tried to reach the two points (5 and 6) and I would not recommend it, as this section has been ruined by tree felling!
2/ The picnic table has disappeared at point 10. It must be said that the constant traffic on the D955 is enough to put you off your food!
To conclude, I highly recommend this hike. You may be lucky enough (as I was!) to encounter animals, such as this poor creature that found itself face to face with me, just a few metres away, fleeing from those famous "defenders of nature" that I could hear shooting in the distance. Seeing that my intentions were very peaceful (I am a vegetarian), it was able to catch its breath for a few seconds before continuing its flight.
