Saint-Gervais to Pont-d'Oxford Greenway

A long and beautiful cycle ride along the banks of the Isère on the Belle Via, on avery flat, well-shaded and car-free route. The route starts from the towpath, near the Saint-Gervais bridge, with the Vercors cliffs accompanying you all the way. The route follows the River Isère upstream to its confluence with the Drac, then crosses both rivers, with the Casque de Néron directly opposite and the snow-capped Pic de Belledonne to the right. The return journey follows the right bank of the Isère.

Description of the route

Park your car in the small car park on the greenway, Route du Port, just after crossing the bridge over the Isère, coming from the village of Saint-Gervais.

(S/E) Set off along the cycle path towards Grenoble. After cycling for around 12 km, you will reach the first bridge over the Isère.

(1) Continue towards Grenoble.

(2) Pass the Moirans cycle area, where you can recharge your batteries and make use of the picnic tables. Continue to the junction a few metres before the next bridge over the Isère.

(3) Turn left towards Veurey-Voroise and cross the Pont de Veurey over the Isère, staying on the cycle path.

(4) At the end of the bridge, turn right and make a circular loop to go under the bridge, then continue towards Veurey-Voroise. Go under a road bridge and reach the next one.

(5) A few metres before it, take the right-hand lane to reach the bridge over the Drac. Follow the cycle path leading to the left bank of the Isère. Go under the motorway bridge and continue to the next one.

(6) Go under it, then take the track to the right, and right again to cross the Pont d’Oxford over the Isère. At the end of the bridge, turn right towards Valence and Lyon, and head for the riverbank.

(7) Take the hairpin bend to the right, towards Valence – Saint-Egrève, and go under the bridge to follow the Isère on its right bank.

(8) Go under the motorway bridge and keep left towards Valence. At the next bridge, Pont de Veurey, go under it and rejoin the route taken on the way there.

(3) Continue straight ahead and follow the route back in the opposite direction to the car park on the greenway, Route du Port (S/E).
