Vervins walks

Unmarked route. A circular route around Vervins that will take you along old paths and alleyways: the Chemin du Verbinum (an ancient Roman road linking Bavay to Reims), the Ruelle de la Basse Suisse, the Chemin de la Fontaine des Prêtres, etc. The route passes by the statue of ‘La Danseuse’ by the French sculptor Cladel Marius Léon (1883–1948), who also created the war memorial in Origny-Sainte-Benoîte.

The village of Étreaupont is crossed by the Oise and the Ton rivers and is situated on the Thiérache Greenway, a converted railway line linking Guise to Hirson. The circular route starts at Saint-Martin Church, follows the Axe Vert for a while towards Guise, and partly follows theGR®122to return to the village.

Starting from Sorbais, Didou the little owl invites you into his domain: the bocage She offers you an educational and informative exploration of the upper Oise valley, its bocage, its wildlife and flora, and its traditional activities. So, between (1) and (3), you can follow the first section of the trail, which is marked with themed information panels.

A very beautiful walk around the village of Lemé, following well-preserved and maintained paths, some of which are lined with ancient hedgerows.

A walk through fields and pastures in the Oise Valley

A route through Thiérache, taking in fields, hills and valleys. It passes through charming little villages such as Saint-Clément, Cuiry-lès-Iviers and Corneaux. The route largely follows theGR®®122.

Why not give this lovely circular walk a go? It’s about 9 km long, suitable for everyone and presents no major difficulties. The meeting point is in front of the charming Saint-Agapit Church in Séchelles, a peaceful hamlet that has been part of Agnicourt since 1795. Throughout the route, you’ll enjoy well-maintained country lanes, offering a comfortable walking experience. What’s more, you’ll have the chance to discover some truly beautiful panoramic views that open out generously onto the lush green Serre valley. The route also takes you along a charming old railway line. It’s the perfect route for enjoying the tranquillity of nature and rediscovering the understated beauty of our countryside.

An easy walk along country lanes through vast fields of wheat and flax. The hills of the Thiérache offer sweeping views in every direction. Admire the churches at Morgny and Sainte-Geneviève, as well as the many fortified churches in the surrounding area.

This is a lovely walk in the heart of the lush Thiérache region, with no particular technical difficulty, which will take you through the villages of Malzy, Proisy and Romery, where you can admire various monuments: wayside shrines, wash houses and 16th-century fortified churches; and, above all, gain an understanding of the purpose and operation of the Oise flood control dam.

Set off to explore the Blangy waterfall: a lovely walk through Hirson’s communal forest, returning along the source of the River Oise.

An easy walk that takes you through part of the Lislet wind farm and allows you to stroll through the narrow streets and alleyways of Montcornet. It also offers a chance to reflect on a bit of history: the Battle of Montcornet on 16 and 17 May 1940, featuring Colonel Charles de Gaulle. Finally, there is an interesting heritage site to discover: the Church of Saint-Martin in Montcornet.

Let yourself be tempted by a rejuvenating getaway of just over 7 km in the heart of the Aisne region. This circular route, located between the Vilpion and Serre rivers, offers a moment of absolute calm between Marcy-sous-Marle and Voyenne. Heritage enthusiasts will be delighted to discover two architectural gems: the majestic Saint-Médard Church in Marcy and the elegant Saint-Rémi Church in Voyenne, silent witnesses to local history.

This route starts in the centre of the village of Saint-Michel and offers a beautiful transition between town and nature. After leaving the village streets at the Sougland foundries, the route enters the peaceful forest of Saint-Michel, in the Bois de Sougland, along the River Le Gland. Shady paths and green forest roads follow one another in the forest. The return route takes you back to the village and leads hikers to the remarkable abbey site of Saint-Michel, whose architecture and tranquillity invite contemplation. At the end of the route, on Boulevard Savart, the Maison du Prévost stands proudly, a witness to local history and the final heritage stop before returning to the starting point on Place Rochefort. This route combines nature, heritage and discovery, perfect for a Thiérache getaway in the forest.

A lovely hike in the Avesnois region. Along the way, you will discover long stretches of the Hirson forest, come across ponds and waterfalls, and walk alongside the Oise and other rivers. A varied hike.

This route is easily accessible and takes you through the typical bocage landscape of Thiérache and Avesnois, with hedgerows, beech trees and, of course, cows. The walk is easy to follow and can be done in any season, but be sure to wear waterproof shoes. It can be combined with other routes starting from Wignehies.

Take the shorter alternative route during the hunting season (calendar available at the town hall or on the ONF website). This route takes you through a large part of the Fourmies State Forest.

This trail, ideal for families, is dotted with information boards illustrating forest management and the forest’s heritage through the ages.

A wonderfully varied family route. Forest paths, small country lanes and paths along the edges of ponds form the backbone of this route.
