Circular route starting from Montcornet

Park at Place de l’Hôtel de Ville in Montcornet (free).

(S/E) Walk up the square and take the^first street on the left (Rue Paul Doumer). Follow it for 100 m to reach its junction with Rue Saint-Martin after number 16.

(1) Turn right and continue for 100 m. Go round the back of the church and turn right before the war memorial. Cross Rue du Calvaire (D946). Head left towards Lislet (D36), then turn immediately right to go down Rue de la Fontaine to Place de l’Industrie.

(2) Take the narrow lane to the left of the bakery, cross the Hurtaut (metal footbridge) and head left, following the river. At the first junction, turn right and follow the lane until it joins Rue Clemenceau.

(3) Turn left and follow the pavement for 100 m before carefully crossing the Route de Reims (D966) and turning onto Chemin de l’Abbé Bonnet. Follow the path for approximately 1.4 km until you reach two rows of fruit trees, which you should walk past on the right.

(4) After these orchards, turn left at the corner of a wooded area and continue straight on for 900 m.

(5) At the bottom of the slope, turn left, then immediately right onto a grassy path that leads back to the D966.

(6) Cross the main road and continue straight ahead onto a stony track leading directly towards the first wind turbines. At the junction, go straight on and continue for 500 m.

(7) Turn left and follow this track for 1.4 km until you reach the first houses of the village of Lislet.

(8) Turn left onto Rue Montelette, then right to head down Grande Rue (D593). Pass the town hall. At the next junction, continue straight on along Rue de Montcornet (D36) and cross the bridge over the Hurtaut.

(9) After the Carrefour Market, turn right onto a footpath that leads up towards Rue de l’Écho. Once you reach this street, turn right and continue for 300 m, ignoring the streets on either side, until you reach a flight of steps which you must climb to emerge onto Rue Léo Lagrange.

(10) Turn left and walk up this street for 300 m until you reach a narrow lane on the left, just past No. 12. Walk down this lane until you reach Rue de l’Égalité (400 m), after crossing Rue du Ruisseau and Rue du Collège.

(11) Turn right, then 150 m further on, turn right again. Walk slightly up Rue du Calvaire, cross it and turn into a narrow lane between numbers 9 and 11, which you should follow straight on for 250 m.

(12) After turning left, turn immediately right to come out onto Rue Aristide Briand.

(13) Turn right, and after a few metres, cross this street to take the gravelled path opposite. Continue until you reach Rue de Gare.

(14) Turn left, then immediately right onto Rue Neuve. Follow it, keeping to the left, to return to the town centre and reach Rue Clémenceau.

(15) Head to the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville in Montcornet (S/E).
