Description of the walk

Begin at Refuge Vallanta (1).

Climb leading to Col de Vallanta 2811 m (2). It's a steep climb but with a stunning view of Monte Viso. After crossing several neves, head down through the scree towards Refuge du Viso. The high berm is a beautiful valley with a view of Monte Viso, Col Sellière which you climbed two days ago and you can also make out Col de la Traversette.

At a crossing (3), shortly after having passed the refuge, take a left leading to "petit belvédère du Viso" then the Roche Écroulée.

Next follow the forest trail or the path leading to Echalp hamlet (4) through Guil valley.

This is a beautiful route that we followed in the other direction (from the church of La Monta). The path is well signposted and without difficulty as far as Lake Lestio.
The next section up to the col is a little more technical and at the end of July 2023 we encountered around 3-4 névés to cross.
Lots of marmots and ibex in the valley on the Italian side.
